Non-self-similar light transport in scattering media

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Transport processes underpin a wide variety of phenomena, ranging from chemistry, to physics and ecology. Despite their pervasiveness, however, several distinctive features of these processes are still elusive, making it difficult to recognize and ...

Catastrophe Insurance Modeled by Shot-Noise Processes

open access: yesRisks, 2014
Shot-noise processes generalize compound Poisson processes in the following way: a jump (the shot) is followed by a decline (noise). This constitutes a useful model for insurance claims in many circumstances; claims due to natural disasters or self ...

Continuous-State Branching Processes and Self-Similarity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Probability, 2008
In this paper we study the α-stable continuous-state branching processes (for α ∈ (1, 2]) and the α-stable continuous-state branching processes conditioned never to become extinct in the light of positive self-similarity. Understanding the interaction of the Lamperti transformation for continuous-state branching processes and the Lamperti ...

Consensus Standards and Recommendations for Developmental and Cognitive Surveillance, Screening, and Evaluation in Sickle Cell Disease: Executive Summary From the National Alliance of Sickle Cell Centers Neurocognitive Workgroup

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive difficulties are prevalent among individuals with sickle cell disease and warrant prompt identification and support. This Special Report provides an executive summary of standards and recommendations for surveillance, screening, and evaluation for development and cognition across the lifespan developed by ...

Change processes in cognitive therapy for social anxiety disorder: A comparison of face-to-face and internet-based treatment formats

open access: yesInternet Interventions
Background: Compared to efficacy research, studies investigating the processes of change in psychological therapy are rare, especially for internet-based interventions.

Generation and morphological quantification of large scale, three-dimensional, self-assembled vascular networks

open access: yesMethodsX, 2019
One of the largest issues facing the field of tissue engineering is scaling due to tissue necrosis as a result of a lack of vascularization. We have developed an accessible method for generating large scale vascular networks of arbitrary geometries ...

Large Deviations for Clocks of Self-similar Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Lamperti correspondence gives a prominent role to two random time changes: the exponential functional of a Lévy process drifting to $\infty$ and its inverse, the clock of the corresponding positive self-similar process. We describe here asymptotical properties of these clocks in large time, extending the results of Yor and Zani.

Development and Implementation of a Disease‐Targeted Storybook as a Clinical Tool for Children With Acute Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Although significant progress has been made in childhood leukemia survival, healthcare providers, and caregivers often face challenges in explaining this disease to patients. Disease‐targeted storybooks have been proposed as a tool to facilitate the understanding of diagnoses and treatment.

Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

MODEL OF CRYSTALLIZATION AS THERMODYNAMICAL PARAMETERS FLUCTUATION

open access: yesФизико-химические аспекты изучения кластеров, наноструктур и наноматериалов, 2014
In this thesis self-organization processes under crystallization of sodium hydroxide NaOH while drying droplets of different volumes on a glass substrate has been investigated.
