Self-similar hyperbolicity [PDF]
In this paper we consider expansive homeomorphisms of compact spaces with a hyperbolic metric presenting a self-similar behavior on stable and unstable sets. Several applications are given related to Hausdorff dimension, entropy, intrinsically ergodic measures and the transitivity of expansive homeomorphisms with canonical coordinates.

Spectra of Reduced Fractals and Their Applications in Biology
Fractals with different levels of self-similarity and magnification are defined as reduced fractals. It is shown that spectra of these reduced fractals can be constructed and used to describe levels of complexity of natural phenomena.

Continuous Self-Similarity and $S$-Duality [PDF]
We study the spherically symmetric collapse of the axion/dilaton system coupled to gravity. We show numerically that the critical solution at the threshold of black hole formation is continuously self-similar.

Self-Similarity in Magnetostrictive Materials: An Experimental Point of View
Magnetostrictive behavior is characterized by a complex coupling between magnetic and mechanical quantities. While this behavior can be quite easily exploited for both actuation and sensing or energy conversion purposes, the complex hysteresis ...

Self-similar exponential approximants [PDF]
An approach is suggested defining effective sums of divergent series in the form of self-similar exponential approximants. The procedure of constructing these approximants from divergent series with arbitrary noninteger powers is developed. The basis of this construction is the self-similar approximation theory.

Global stability for the prion equation with general incidence
We consider the so-called prion equation with the general incidence term introduced in [14], and we investigate the stability of the steady states. The method is based on the reduction technique introduced in [11].The argument combines a recent spectral ...

Direct Numerical Simulation of 2D Incompressible Boundary Layer Using Compact Finite Difference [PDF]
The non-dimensional Navier stokes equations in rotational form for the boundary layer flow are solved using direct numerical simulation. The length scale and velocity scale of the base flow the boundary layer thickness and the inviscid velocity outside ...

Heart Rate Variability for the Early Detection of Cardiac Autonomic Dysfunction in Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) has an important impact on morbidity and mortality because it may start early in life. Therefore, the early detection of cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (DCAN) in T1DM patients is important to intervene quickly and ...
