Comparative evaluation of insertion torque and mechanical stability for self-tapping and self-drilling orthodontic miniscrews – an in vitro study

open access: yesHead & Face Medicine, 2017
Background The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between insertion torque and stability of miniscrews in terms of resistance against dislocation, then comparing a self-tapping screw with a self-drilling one.

Abduction and Deduction in Dynamical Cognitive Science

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This paper reviews the recent history of a subset of research in dynamical cognitive science, in particular that subset that allies itself with the sciences of complexity and casts cognitive systems as interaction dominant, noncomputational, and nonmodular. I look at this history in the light of C.S.

The Automated Threaded Fastening Based on On-line Identification

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2004
The principle of the thread fastenings have been known and used for decades with the purpose of joining one component to another. Threaded fastenings are popular because they permit easy disassembly for maintenance, repair, relocation and recycling ...

Seismic Response of a Platform-Frame System with Steel Columns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Timber platform-frame shear walls are characterized by high ductility and diffuse energy dissipation but limited in-plane shear resistance. A novel lightweight constructive system composed of steel columns braced with oriented strand board (OSB) panels ...

The influences of moisture content variation, number and width of gaps on the withdrawal resistance of self tapping screws inserted in cross laminated timber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A large experimental campaign comprised of 470 withdrawal tests was carried out, aiming to quantify the withdrawal resistance of self-tapping screws (STS) inserted in the side face of cross laminated timber (CLT) elements.

A novel methodology to assess the relaxation rate of the intervertebral disc by increments on intradiscal pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Publicado em "Applied mechanics and materials, vol. 664 (2014) pp 379-383"The Intervertebral Disc (IVD) is subjected to several types of loading during daily routine events. However, the overloading on this structure induces higher Intradiscal Pressure (

Thermal Processing Creates Water‐Stable PEDOT:PSS Films for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Instead of using chemical cross–linkers, it is shown that PEDOT:PSS thin films for bioelectronics become water‐stable after a simple heat treatment. The heat treatment is compatible with a range of rigid and elastomeric substrates and films are stable in vivo for >20 days.
