A comprehensive approach to avoid node selfishness and data redundancy

Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2020
Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) is an array of protocols which work together to enable a standardized way to communicate between nodes is store-carry-and-forward approach. In DTN, nodes help to convey message even with connectivity problem. Instead of using the own resource to pass a message to other nodes, a relay node is preferred which discovers the ...

On an ALOHA game with unknown selfish nodes

2010 10th International Symposium on Communications and Information Technologies, 2010
In a random access network, a node generally controls its packet transmission according to the specified backoff algorithm. Some nodes may disobey the backoff algorithm and behave selfishly in order to obtain more bandwidth share. In this paper, we consider a scenario where a new node is ready to join a slotted ALOHA-type random access network and has ...

A distributed storage model for selfish and rational nodes

2013 6th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics, 2013
Considering autonomy character of distributed nodes, we propose a distributed storage model for selfish and rational nodes (SR-DSM). SR-DSM is designed as six-layer model. First, static conception is described in formalization method, in which conceptions of Physical Entity (PE), Storage Service Entity (SSE) and User Entity (UE) are proposed.

Transmission costs, selfish nodes, and protocol design

Wireless Networks, 2006
We study the influence of transmission costs on the behavior of selfish nodes in wireless local area networks. Intuitively, it seems that transmission costs should have a stabilizing effect as (rational) nodes will defer packet transmissions when congestion develops and the cost for (successfully) transmitting a packet becomes high.

Performance modeling of DTN routing with heterogeneous and selfish nodes

Wireless Networks, 2013
The performance modeling study of Delay-Tolerant Network routing, in general, assumes the nodes to be homogeneous (in terms of features such as the coverage range) and uncompromised (in terms of forwarding messages). However, in realistic settings this may not be the case.

Evaluation of collaborative selfish node detection in MANETS and DTNs

Proceedings of the 15th ACM international conference on Modeling, analysis and simulation of wireless and mobile systems, 2012
Mobile ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) and Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) rely on network cooperation schemes to work properly. Nevertheless, if nodes have a selfish behaviour and are unwilling to cooperate, the overall network performance could be seriously affected. The use of watchdogs is a well-known mechanism to detect selfish nodes.

Quantitative Study on Impact of Node Selfishness on Performance of MANETs

2020 IEEE International Conference on Smart Internet of Things (SmartIoT), 2020
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are kinds of wireless networks that are various features like dynamic mobility, constraint resources, fully decentralized etc. The communication among the nodes highly depends on the cooperation between nodes. Data forwarding is the main task during the communication process.

A transmission scheme for opportunistic networks with social selfish nodes

Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Internet Multimedia Computing and Service, 2012
Opportunistic Networks aim to provide reliable communications in an intermittently connected environment. Most of the existing transmission schemes are taking a class of store-carry-forward schemes to improve the delivery. However, they don't take the social selfish nodes into consideration.

Fair and energy-efficient cooperative relaying with selfish nodes

2013 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2013
Cooperative communication has been proven effective in enhancing the performance of wireless networks. In this paper, we propose an adaptive multi-relay selection with power allocation mechanism to offer energy fairness at each node for a cooperative network.
