AbstractThe metaphor of selfish goals is misguided. Organisms can be considered vessels that further the interests of their genes, but not vessels that further the interests of their goals. Although goals can act at cross-purposes to each other and to longevity, such trade-offs are predicted by evolutionary theory.

We study the problem of routing traffic through a congested network. We focus on the simplest case of a network consisting of m parallel links. We assume a collection of n network users; each user employs a mixed strategy, which is a probability distribution over links, to control the shipping of its own assigned traffic. Given a capacity for each link

We present a model for routing games in which edge delay functions are uncertain and users are risk-averse. We investigate how the uncertainty and risk-aversion transform the classical theory on routing games, including equilibria existence, characterization and price of anarchy.

'The Selfish Giant': A Study of Christian Selfishness
2015'The Selfish Giant' by Oscar Wilde has a history rooted in Christianity. There are ample journals, books, and even some occasional movies that demonstrate Wilde's work as a Christian allegory. In a Christian analysis, the giant is seen as either St. Christopher or an unknown man whereas the child who cries is the Christ child. A Christian reading often

Fashioning a selfish self amid selfish goals
Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 2014AbstractThe selfish goal, at some point in evolution, gave rise to a selfish self. In humans, this selfish self might exert influence over goals, deciding upon which to execute and which to inhibit. This, in fact, may be one of the chief functions of the self.

SUMMARY In "Striving to Be Selfish," Ruthann Robson explores the different kinds of selfishness it takes to be a writer and a dyke, especially the necessary focus on the higher self. Distinguishing the writer from the author (and the dyke from the lesbian), she argues that there is an almost spiritual dimension to the practices of writing and sex.

In this work we define and study a new model for the caching problem in a heterogeneous wireless network under a flash-crowd scenario. Using non-cooperative game theory, we cast the caching problem as an anti-coordination game. We start by defining the social optimum in the general case and then focus on a two-player game to obtain insights into the ...
