Scanning electron microscopy investigation of bio-polymer composites morphology [PDF]
The development of nano-composite materials puts higher demand on morphological analysis techniques. The bio-nano-composite material systems is among the most challenging nano-composite materials for morphology characterization due to its sensitivity to ...

The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

SEM characterization of mm-long nanowires
The fabrication of optical fibre nanowires has recently attracted much attention [1-5]. Nanowires longer than 110mm [2] and with diameters smaller than 20 nm [5] have now been fabricated using a top-down approach. Because of the extraordinarily large ratio between length and diameter (>100000), the characterization of optical fibre nanowires ...

The low cycle fatigue life of additive manufactured HAYNES® 282® superalloy was investigated for conventional and high‐productivity processing: samples of the former lasted 1400–1700 cycles, while samples of the latter failed at ~ 1200 cycles, at 760 °C and 1% strain.

This article demonstrates the successful qualification of a copper–tungsten composite for laser powder bed fusion. The resulting components exhibited high density, high thermal conductivity, and reduced thermal expansion. Heat sinks with complex geometries were successfully manufactured, clearly showcasing the material's potential for additive ...

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Advanced SEM Techniques to Characterize Coal Minerals [PDF]
Research at the University of North Dakota Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC) has focused on methods to characterize the inorganic components in coals. Because the scanning electron microscope and electron probe microanalysis system (SEM/EPMA) provide both morphologic and chemical information, the SEM/EPMA system is well-suited to the ...
