Fly ash characterization by SEM–EDS

Fuel, 2006
A study conducted at the National Energy Technology Laboratory characterized twelve Class F fly ash samples from nine PC power plants in PA, WV, MD and TN, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Both the surface and internal structure of fly ash particles were analyzed.

Multi-scale characterization by FIB-SEM/TEM/3DAP

Microscopy, 2014
In order to improve properties of functional materials, it is important to understand the relation between the structure and the properties since the structure has large effect to the properties. This can be done by using multi-scale microstructure analysis from macro-scale to nano and atomic scale.

Defect Characterization Using SEM-CCM Relative Contrast Measurements

Physica Status Solidi (a), 1984
The quantitative variation of defect contrast as a function of experimental parameters in SEM–CCM measurements is investigated experimentally. The contrast is found to be a multivalued function in many cases. Three regimes are defined in terms of the defect spatial position, the junction depletion depth. and the electron beam range.

Contact hole characterization by SEM waveform analysis

SPIE Proceedings, 1999
A new algorithm for an Applied Materials CD-SEM metrology tool has been developed which gives a quantitative characterization of the quality of contact holes in photoresist. This is a non-destructive technique that allows users to assess the cross sectional profile of a contact hole from top-down measurements thus avoiding the time- consuming and ...

Characterization of nanoline based on SEM images

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
In this paper, nanolines are fabricated on photoresist using electron beam lithography (EBL) technique. The trapeziform of the cross-section is studied through analysis of the top-down scan electron microscope (SEM) image of the nanolines. Width is not adequate to describe the nanolines.

Immuno-SEM characterization of developing bovine cartilage

Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2008
Collagen is a vital material in the tissues of living organisms. Found almost everywhere in the human body, collagen is important in connective tissues, bone growth, and cartilage. Collagen XI makes up a very small portion of the cartilaginous tissue; however, it plays a key role in cartilaginous tissue.

Novel characterization technique by using an SEM

2008 23rd International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum, 2008
Charging and discharging phenomenon on the surface of materials can be found in plasma display panel, spacecraft charging, high voltage insulator, etc. This report gives a simple explanation on this phenomenon. A scanning electron microscope was used not only as a tool to produce energetic electron beam to charge an insulator without metallic coating ...

CD characterization of nanostructures in SEM metrology

Measurement Science and Technology, 2007
A new algorithm is presented that evaluates the critical dimension (CD) of nanostructures from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. The algorithm is based on the physical modelling of the SEM image formation and evaluates both top and bottom CDs.

Characterization of Coatings by SEM Based Microdiffraction

Materials Science Forum, 2011
The behaviour of a coating is directly related to its microstructure as well as the crystal structure and composition of different phases that are formed in the deposition process. A comprehensive study of the microstructure and local phase assembly in coatings would help in arriving at structure-property correlations that can help understand the ...

SEM Characterization of Aged Coal Liquefaction Catalysts

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1985
Coal liquefaction was identified as a national priority in the midseventies, Nonetheless, it was clear that oil is a limited resource and that the energy potential of this country's coal resources must be tapped in an efficient and environmentally sound manner.
