Semen quality and semen storage.
2009AbstractPoultry semen quality and semen storage respectively can be considered in terms of the intrinsic components of spermatozoa and seminal plasma and their properties, and of the oviducal sperm-storage systems and their regulation. However, the focus of this chapter is on the technologies for assessing semen quality and for storing semen in vitro ...

Detection of macrophages in rabbit semen and their relationship with semen quality
Theriogenology, 2017We aimed at the evaluating the occurrence of macrophages in rabbit semen and finding possible relationship between macrophage concentration and spermatozoa quality. The concentration of macrophages in semen samples from broiler rabbit males of lines M91 and P91 (n = 30) without overt evidence of genital tract infections was determined using monocyte ...

Mating requires cooperation between the sexes. In species in which there are separate sexes, females and males of the same species must communicate to find each other and sperm and eggs need to be united in the correct manner to achieve fertilization.

Semen analysis initiates the evaluation of the male partner of an infertile couple, and is generally the first test ordered when a couple presents with concerns of infertility. This article outlines the steps involved in the initial evaluation of the man's fertility potential, the interpretation of the results, and the prognostic value of these results.

Detection of Orosomucoid 1 Phenotypes in Semen and Semen Stains
Journal of Forensic Sciences, 1989Abstract Orosomucoid 1 phenotypes were detected in seminal plasma by isoelectric focusing and immunoprinting. The orosomucoid 1 phenotypes in seminal plasma correlated with the types found in the corresponding serum specimens. Semen stains stored for ten days could be typed for orosomucoid 1.

Cryopreservation and vitrification of fish semen: a review with special emphasis on marine species
, 2018Semen conservation methods have been extensively studied for fish species over the last 60 years. Cryopreservation techniques can be divided into two types: one with slow cooling rates like traditional freezing and the other with ultrarapid rates as used

Semen cryopreservation is an important tool for the storage of reproductive cells used for the ex situ management of genetic diversity in birds. Recent advances in poultry semen cryopreservation technology have resulted in the emergence of cryobanking, which is now being developed in an increasing number of countries.

SIGNIFICANCE OF SEMEN CULTURES FOR MEN WITH QUESTIONABLE SEMEN QUALITY
Archives of Andrology, 2006Semen cultures often yield inconclusive results probably due to bacterial contaminants. We were able to isolate enteric pathogens with greater specificity by comparing two cultures from the same individual: one obtained from the midstream urine and the other from ejaculate obtained following midstream urine collection and eliminating the bacteria ...

Aluminum content of human semen: Implications for semen quality
Reproductive Toxicology, 2014A deterioration of human semen quality has been observed over recent decades. A possible explanation could be an increased exposure to environmental pollutants, including aluminum. Our aim was to measure the aluminum concentration in the semen of 62 patients and to carry out a preliminary evaluation on its impact on specific semen parameters.

Bacteriology of preserved stallion semen and antibiotics in semen extenders
Theriogenology, 1998Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of different antibiotics in a milk-glucose semen extender on motility of equine sperm and elimination of bacteria following storage of extended semen in vitro. In Experiment 1, 7 antibiotics were compared: amikacin, gentamicin, streptomycin, potassium penicillin, sodium penicillin, ticarcillin ...
