Behavior Factor of Dual Systems with BRBs and Semi-Rigid Connections

Key Engineering Materials, 2018
The use of BRBs into a typical European building with braced structure, whereby all the beam-to-column connections are perfectly pinned, may be low effective. In fact, these structures are low-redundant and prone to develop soft story collapse mechanisms.

Semi-rigid connection modeling for steel frameworks

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2010
This article provides a discussion of the mathematic modeling of connections for designing and qualifying structures, systems, and components subject to monotonic or cyclic loading. To characterize the force-deformation behavior of connections under monotonic loading, a review of the Ramberg-Osgood, Richard-Abbott, and Menegotto-Pinto models is ...

Analysis of a semi-rigid connection for precast concrete

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2010
This paper presents a study of a specific type of beam-to-column connection for precast concrete structures. Furthermore, an analytical model to determine the strength and the stiffness of the connection, based on test results of two prototypes, is proposed.

Semi-rigid Steelwork Connections

This thesis sets out to assess the stiffness of typical fin plate steelwork connections. The classification of joints as pinned, semi-rigid or fixed is described and the different models of moment-rotation relationship are explained. Eurocode treatment of steelwork connections is assessed with particular emphasis on joint stiffness.

Effective Length of Columns with Semi-Rigid Connections

Engineering Journal, 1976
The effective length of a column depends on the boundary conditions at the ends of its unbraced length. In a framed structure, the boundary conditions depend on the stiffness of the beams framed to the column. Design guides available for determining the effective length are provided for cases where beams are rigidly framed to the column and have their ...

Moment–Rotation Response for Semi-rigid Connections

2018
In this paper, mathematical models available for eight commonly used beam-to-column connections like single-web angle, double-web angle, top and seat angle with and without web angles, extended end-plate, flushed end-plate, and header plate connections are studied from literature.
