Tubular Steel Truss Design Using Semi-Rigid Joints

Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (2014), 2014
Despite the fact that semi-rigid nature of steel structures joints is well-known for several decades the truss design is constantly being carried out with ideally hinged joints in the finite element models. In some recent studies the stiffness of welded tubular truss joints have been defined as well as the member buckling lengths in the trusses.

Advanced Method for Semi-Rigid Joints Design

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
In this paper was presented analysis of the background and was found the most appropriate ways to consider joints stiffness. The design process algorithm is proposed in order to take into account nonlinear stiffness characteristic, complex of economic, ecologic and safety factors for the different joint types.

Analysis of frames with semi-rigid joints

Computers & Structures, 1994
Summary: We present a method to determine the load capacity as well as end member forces and deformations of frames with partial rigid joint connections by using the direct stiffness method. The connections are modeled as rotational springs, attached at the ends of framed members.

Reliability Analysis of Steel Frames with Semi-Rigid Joints

Civil-Comp Proceedings, 2009
The aim of this study is to investigate the reliability analysis of the steel frames with semi-rigid beam to column joints under earthquake loads by developing an algorithm composed of common reliability analysis techniques. The rigidity and the strength of the semi-rigid joints are determined according to the component method.

Channel frames with semi-rigid joints

Computers & Structures, 2001
Abstract The analysis and tests of cold-formed thin-walled channel frames including nonlinear flexible or semi-rigid connection behaviour is presented. The semi-rigid connection behaviour is modelled using a mathematical approximation of the connection flexibility or moment–rotation relationship.

Cold-formed steel trusses with semi-rigid joints

Thin-Walled Structures, 1997
Abstract An experimental research program aiming to evaluate the semi-rigid behaviour of some typical bolted connections, that are used in cold formed steel plane truss joints, was carried out in the Laboratory of CMMC Department of The ‘Politehnica’ University of Timisoara.

Moment–rotation–temperature curves for semi-rigid joints

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2005
Abstract Although connections are known to have a very significant effect on the behaviour of steel and composite framed buildings in the event of fire, the cost of high temperature tests on the broad range of connections used in practice means that their influence is not well detailed in current design codes.

Stiffness Analysis on Semi-Rigid Joints in Gabled Frames

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
At present, the structure of gabled frames is the most extensively-applied structure in the single-storey industrial building and long-span single-storey buildings. The joints of corner are main connecting part of gabled frames, of which the performance directly affects the integral behavior of its structure subject to load.

Vibration and deflection characteristics of semi-rigid jointed frames

Engineering Structures, 1997
In the practical design of steel frames, the serviceability vibration and deflection checks are required to ensure a structure fits its uses. Previous studies on flexibly jointed steel frames are mostly concentrated on their ultimate capacities and static behaviour, whilst the influence of joint flexibility on the serviceability behaviour of the ...

SUPER-ELEMENT WITH SEMI-RIGID JOINTS IN MODEL UPDATING

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2001
Civil engineering structures usually consist of a large number of members connected by joints. The joints are fixed with different types of fasteners, and they provide a certain amount of flexibility towards the static and dynamic behavior of the structure.
