Imperfection sensitivity of structures with semi-rigid joints

Thin-Walled Structures, 1997
Abstract In the storage and materials handling industry, .semi-rigid joint behaviour has been used for many years when evaluating the load carrying capability of beams, and the stability of unbraced frameworks. However, less research work has been conducted on the overall frame behaviour of semirigid unbraced frameworks.

Influences of Semi-Rigidity of End-Plate Joints on Structures

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Calculations of the end-plate semi-rigid joints are carried out with a FE-program ANSYS. Some results of the calculations are introduced in this paper. The influences of the joints semi-rigidity on the deformation, the bending capacity and the internal force of the structure are researched; the initial rotational stiffness, the elastic ultimate moment ...

Progressive Collapse of Three-Dimensional Semi-Rigid Jointed Steel Frames

Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, 2016
AbstractIn this paper, a simplified numerical model is developed for studying the progressive collapse of three-dimensional semi-rigid jointed steel frames under static loading conditions using rotational springs. So far in the literature, limited study has been reported on progressive collapse of semi-rigid jointed frames, especially in the case of ...

Structural health monitoring for frame structure with semi-rigid joints

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
This paper presents a method for detecting and locating structural damages in local elements or regions of a structural system by directly utilizing structural vibration measurements. A previously developed damage diagnosis technique is enhanced by including a simplified lumped-mass model, which is equivalent to the complex frame structure.

Experimental analysis of king-post truss with semi-rigid joints

2021
Joining wooden rafters with plywood gusset plates using helically threaded nails to form roof trusses has been widely developed in recent years. Actually, the nailed member has proven to be extremely strong and stiff, but it is not perfectly rigid. The effect of non-rigidity of joints in resisting bending and thrust are investigated in this paper.

Stability analysis of frame constructions with semi-rigid joints

Inżynieria i Budownictwo
The paper presents a way of calculation of a critical buckling force of 2D frames with semi-rigid joints. The classical displacement method was used. Transformation formulas and examples of their application were presented. The obtained values of critical buckling forces for various joint stiffnesses were compared and related to the relevant ...

Nonlinear Analyses of Industrial Steel Buildings with Semi-Rigid Joints

Italian existing steel buildings are often characterized by joints with semi-rigid and partial-strength behaviour, which result in poor global performance, particularly under seismic loads. This issue is due to the wrong design assumption of fully rigid or ideally pinned restraints, widespread in the usual practice of the past and acquired by national ...
