Exploring Multistability in Semiconductor Ring Lasers: Theory and Experiment [PDF]
We report the first experimental observation of multi-stable states in a single-longitudinal mode semiconductor ring laser. We show how the operation of the device can be steered to either monostable, bistable or multi-stable dynamical regimes in a controlled way.

Small-Signal Theory and Design of Traveling-Wave Semiconductor Cascade Lasers
Traveling-wave semiconductor cascade lasers (TWSCLs) are a form of series cascade laser (SCL) in which series-connected laser diodes are interconnected with commensurate transmission lines to create a periodically loaded structure.

Theory of microscopic semiconductor lasers with external optical feedback
The properties of microscopic semiconductor lasers with external optical feedback are theoretically analysed. The size-dependence of the critical feedback level, at which the laser first becomes unstable, is clarified, showing how the dominant indicator of feedback stability is the gain of the laser, irrespective of size.

Theory of passively mode-locked photonic crystal semiconductor lasers
We report the first theoretical investigation of passive mode-locking in photonic crystal mode-locked lasers. Related work has investigated coupled-resonator-optical-waveguide structures in the regime of active mode-locking [Opt. Express 13, 4539-4553 (2005)].
