Study of optical bistability based on hybrid-cavity semiconductor lasers

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
All-optical flip-flop has been demonstrated experimentally based on our optical bistable hybrid square-rectangular lasers. In this paper, dual-mode rate equations are utilized for studying the optical bistability in the two-section hybrid-coupled ...

The optical gain lever: A novel gain mechanism in the direct modulation of quantum well semiconductor lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
A new gain mechanism active in certain quantum well laser diode structures is demonstrated and explained theoretically. It enhances the modulation amplitude produced by either optical or electrical modulation of quantum well structures.

Spin‐Selective Anisotropic Magnetoresistance Driven by Chirality in DNA

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that magnetoresistance (MR) measurements carried out as a function of angular dependence between the magnetic field and a chiral (DNA) interface provide a valuable new insight into the charge transport mechanism associated with the chiral‐induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect.

Optical Transmittance Maximization in Superior Performance Tunnel Junctions for Very High Concentration Applications. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The light transmission through a tunnel junction in a multijunction solar cell depends on the optical properties and thickness of the whole solar cell layers stack, which configure the light absorption, reflection and interference processes taking place ...

Large optical gain from four-wave mixing instabilities in semiconductor quantum wells

open access: yes, 2007
Based on a microscopic many-particle theory, we predict large optical gain in the probe and background-free four-wave mixing directions caused by excitonic instabilities in semiconductor quantum wells.

Four-wave mixing wavelength conversion efficiency in semiconductor traveling-wave amplifiers measured to 65 nm of wavelength shift [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The efficiency of broadband optical wavelength conversion by four-wave mixing in semiconductor traveling-wave amplifiers is measured for wavelength shifts up to 65 nm using a tandem amplifier geometry.

Optical Control of the Thermal Conductivity in BaTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light‐driven manipulation of thermal conductivity in archetypal ferroelectric, BaTiO3, offers a novel and effective approach for the dynamical control of the heat flux, with potential applications in thermal management and phonon‐based logic. Abstract Achieving dynamic control over thermal conductivity remains a formidable challenge in condensed matter

Invited Article: Four-mode semiconductor optical amplifier

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2016
We demonstrate the first few-mode semiconductor optical amplifier (FM SOA) that supports up to four waveguide modes. We show that each of the modes are confined to the waveguide, overlapping the quantum wells with approximately the same amount, leading ...

Turning on Selective H2S Gas Sensing Activity in Ternary Nickel Tungstate Strongly Correlated Electron System Through Sub‐Gap Band Manipulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A strongly correlated electron system (SCES) exhibits pronounced insulating behavior due to Coulombic repulsion between cations, which generates a charge gap. This study investigates the tuning of the band structure in NiWO4‐based SCES via Cu doping at substitutional sites and Li doping at interstitial sites.
