Wordnet and Semidiscrete Decomposition for Sub-Symbolic Representation of Words

2009
A methodology for sub-symbolic semantic encoding of words is presented. The methodology uses the standard, semantically highly-structured WordNet lexical database and the SemiDiscrete matrix Decomposition to obtain a vector representation with low memory requirements in a semantic n-space.

Semidiscrete and Discrete Well-Posedness of Shock Filtering

2005
While shock filters are popular morphological image enhancement methods, no well-posedness theory is available for their corresponding partial differential equations (PDEs). By analysing the dynamical system of ordinary differential equations that results from a space discretisation of a PDE for 1-D shock filtering, we derive an analytical solution and

Convergence Estimates for Semidiscrete Parabolic Equation Approximations

SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1982
Semidiscrete methods for approximating the solutions of initial boundary value problems for parabolic equations are studied. The construction of these semidiscrete methods is based upon the availability of several different Galerkin type approximation methods for the associated elliptic steadystate problem.

On the Existence of Semidiscrete Shock Profiles

2001
The approximation of shock waves by finite difference schemes is considered. This question has been investigated by many authors, but mainly under some restrictions on discrete wave speeds. Basic works are due to Majda and Ralston (rational speed) and, more recently, to Liu and Yu (Diophantine speed).
