Staging of Mouse Seminiferous Tubule Cross-Sections

2009
Spermatogenesis is a cyclic process during which, within each epithelial area, various generations of germ cells undergo a series of developmental steps according to a fixed time schedule. The cycle of the seminiferous epithelium can be subdivided into stages.

Sertoli cell proteins in the human seminiferous tubule

Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1989
It is well known that rat Sertoli cells in culture secrete both testis-specific proteins, such as inhibin and androgen binding protein (ABP), and proteins which are very similar, if not identical, to serum proteins, such as transferrin (TF), ceruloplasmin, and IGF-I.

Testosterone micromilieu in staged rat seminiferous tubules

Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1990
Endogenous testosterone concentrations in rat seminiferous tubules were measured in relation to different stages of the cycle of the seminiferous epithelium. For this purpose, the seminiferous tubules were mechanically separated from the interstitial tissue on a cooled (1 degree C) petri dish under a stereomicroscope without added medium.

The Ultrastructure of the Seminiferous Tubule

1982
During the short phase of sexual activity the germ cell development can be described light microscopically as a succession of defined stages. A detailed representation of the different cell types is only possible, however, in the area of ultrastructural examination.

INHIBIN FROM CULTURES OF RAT SEMINIFEROUS TUBULES

Journal of Endocrinology, 1978
SUMMARY Medium from cultures of mature rat seminiferous tubules contained a substance which suppressed, in a dose-related manner, the luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LH-RH)-stimulated secretion of FSH by cultured rat pituitary cells.

Histologic Changes in the Seminiferous Tubules after Vasectomy

Fertility and Sterility, 1974
4 different studies on the effect of vasectomy on the testis in canines and humans are reported. Testicular biopsies were performed at certain intervals and the results in both humans and dogs were nearly identical. It was found that spermatogenesis 2 to 3 weeks after vasectomy remained unchanged with accumulation of spermatozoa in the tubules ...

Leydig cells within the aspermatogenic seminiferous tubules

Human Pathology, 1987
Cells identical to Leydig cells were found within a peritubular boundary layer and even inside a basal lamina of seminiferous tubules in three male patients (two with inguinal cryptorchism and one with infertility). The seminiferous tubules of all patients showed a moderate to marked thickening of the boundary layer and a complete loss of spermatogenic

Hormonal Regulation of the Seminiferous Tubule Function

1975
Until the second half of the third decade of the twentieth century, questions concerning the controlling mechanisms in the development of the testes and in the maintenance of their function were frequently asked, but poorly understood. Numerous clinical and pathological observations led to a vague idea that these mechanisms may be located within the ...
