Stand density effects on branching in an annual legume (Senna obtusifolia).

Annals of Botany, 1994
Effects of proximity to nearest neighbours on shoot morphology and branch growth were examined for Senna obtusifolia (L.) I. & B., an annual legume species that displays wide variation in branching. Periodic surveys described location and type of growth at all nodes on plants in regularly spaced monocultures.

Assessing the Usefulness of Senna Obtusifolia, an Invasive Plant Species in West Africa Rangelands [PDF]

open access: yesXXV International Grassland Congress (IGC 2023), 2023
Senna obtusifolia is a less appreciated plant species. Its invasion has led to the disappearance of several herbaceous species of interest in West Africa rangelands. As adaptation strategy, people use it to substitute for those that have disappeared. This study aimed to assess the importance of this species for animal and local ethnic groups according ...

Toxicity of Senna obtusifolia fresh and fermented leaves (kawal), Senna alata leaves and some products from Senna alata on rats

Phytotherapy Research, 1998
The present study investigated the effects induced on albino rats by Senna obtusifolia fresh leaves and fermented (kawal) leaves, S. alata leaves, as well as the ethanol extract and pure compounds, namely, emodin, kaempferol, aloe-emodin, and rhein from the latter species. The present results indicate that the leaves of both S. obtusifolia and S. alata

Purification and characterization of a novel cholesterol-lowering protein from the seeds of Senna obtusifolia

Science in China Series C: Life Sciences, 2008
"Juemingzi", a source of traditional Chinese herbal medicine, has been demonstrated to play a role in decreasing serum cholesterol concentration. In this study, a novel protein, which has shown an inhibitory effect on cholesterol biosynthesis, was isolated from Senna obtusifolia L. seed by gel filtration and ion exchange chromatography.

Phytochemical Screening and Antifungal Efficacy of Closely Related Senna obtusifolia and Senna tora on Some Phytopathogenic Fungi

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences India Section B - Biological Sciences, 2017
The antifungal activity of crude methanolic leaf extract of closely related Senna obtusifolia and Senna tora of family Caesalpiniaceae was evaluated by growth inhibition analysis on four phytopathogenic fungi viz. Alternaria helianthii, Pythium aphanidermatum, Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus niger.

Sicklepod (Senna obtusifolia) Seed Processing and Potential Utilization

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2005
Sicklepod (Senna obtusifolia) is a leguminous plant that infests soybean fields in the southeastern United States. Its seeds contain a variety of toxic, highly colored compounds, mainly anthraquinones together with a small amount of fat. These compounds contaminate and lower the quality of soybean oil when inadequately cleaned soybean seed from this ...

Physiological, transcriptional, and metabolic alterations in spaceflight-subjected Senna obtusifolia

Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2019
Senna obtusifolia is a widely used medicinal herb in Asian countries. To select elite cultivars, S. obtusifolia seeds were carried by "ShenZhou Ⅷ" recoverable satellite to space. Three spaceflight-subjected lines (SP-lines), namely QC10, QC29, QC46, and their ground control line (GC-line) were cultivated on the ground.
