Spectrum sensing challenges: blind sensing and sensing optimization
IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Magazine, 2016By any measure, wireless communications is one of the most evolving fields in engineering. This, in return, has imposed many challenges, especially in handling the hunger for higher data rates in the next generation wireless networks. Among these challenges is how to provide the needed resources in terms of the electromagnetic radio spectrum for these ...

Making Sense of Sense Containment
History and Philosophy of Logic, 2017Proposition 5.122 of Wittgenstein’s Tractatus (‘If p follows from q, the sense of [p] is contained in the sense of [q]’) has been the source of much puzzlement among interpreters, so much so that no fully satisfactory account is yet available. This is unfortunate, if only because the containment account of logical consequence has a venerable tradition ...

A hitherto unchallenged assumption in much of the literature in favour of the idea of plant sentience is that since the function of consciousness in humans is to mediate adaptive behaviours, where behaviours occur in plants similar to those mediated by conscious experiences in humans, it is likely they too are mediated by conscious experiences.

This paper addresses the question of whether it is possible to sense-tag systematically, and on a large scale, and how we should assess progress so far. That is to say, how to attach each occurrence of a word in a text to one and only one sense in a dictionary-a particular dictionary of course, and that is part of the problem.
