On estimating the sensible heat flux over land

Agricultural Meteorology, 1978
Abstract The sensible heat flux from a land surface can be estimated from the ground temperature, and the air speed and air temperature at a single height in the surface layer. To test this technique, a study was made over a newly-planted wheat field in southwestern Kansas.

Remote sensing of surface sensible and latent heat fluxes

Proceedings of IGARSS '93 - IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002
The potential for radar/lidar remote sensing of the surface sensible and latent heat fluxes is discussed, and some preliminary results are given. The method utilizes a parameterization scheme involving observables measured by radar/lidar in the convective boundary layer. >

Sensible and Latent Heat Flux Measurements over the Ocean

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1982
Abstract This papar presents an extensive act of sensible heat (Reynolds flux and dissipation methods) and latent heat (dissipation method) flux measurements from a stable deep water tower and from ships on the deep sea. Operational difficulties associated with ship spray and flow distortion and with sensor calibration, response and contamination are ...

Towards sensible heat flux measurements with multicopter UAS

This study demonstrates the feasibility of measuring temperature variance and sensible heat flux with self-calibrated fine-wire platinum resistance thermometers (FWPRT) on multicopter drones. The sensors are especially designed for light-weight, fast response-times and to be carried on miniature drones for turbulence measurements.A significant ...

Description and evaluation of a sensible heat flux detector

Boundary-Layer Meteorology, 1977
An eddy-correlation method is the basis of a newly-developed sensible heat-flux detector which collects air temperature information proportional to the vertical wind speed in two electronic counters, one for upflow and one for downflow. The current model uses fast-responding sensors for vertical velocity and air temperature, but the principle should be

Sensible heat fluxes measured in and near Vancouver, B.C.

2011
A yaw sphere-thermometer assembly (YST), to measure sensible heat flux density by the eddy correlation method, was built following the design of Tanner and Thurtell (1970). Wind tunnel experiments indicate that the sphere constant should be 1.57, which is significantly less than the previously used theoretical value of 2.25.
