An investigation of sensible heat fluxes at a green roof in a laboratory setup

open access: yesBuilding and Environment, 2011
Abstract During the last few years, several models have been proposed for the calculation of green roof thermal behavior, but the validation studies of such models are lacking a comprehensive set of highly accurate data. In this study, an experimental laboratory setup was used to create different environmental conditions and to measure sensible heat ...

Sensible heat fluxes control cloud trail strength

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 2023
AbstractConvective cloud bands known as “cloud trails” (CTs) are commonly found downwind of small islands (<(100) km2) throughout the world. They occur primarily in the afternoon, and are known to form in response to land–sea contrasts under the presence of background flow.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The surface energy balance of a polygonal tundra site in northern Siberia – Part 1: Spring to fall [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2011
In this article, we present a study on the surface energy balance of a polygonal tundra landscape in northeast Siberia. The study was performed during half-year periods from April to September in each of 2007 and 2008.

Characteristics of Surface Water and Heat Exchange during Soil Freezing And Thawing of Maqu Station in the Source Area of the Yellow River

open access: yesGaoyuan qixiang, 2023
Land surface moisture content and energy budget are significantly affected by the soil freeze-thaw process. From August 2017 to July 2018, soil temperature, soil moisture, eddy data from observation and the simulation data of Community Land Model 5.0 ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Observation of sensible and latent heat flux profiles with lidar [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2019
Abstract. We present the first measurement of the sensible heat flux (H) profile in the convective boundary layer (CBL) derived from the covariance of collocated vertical-pointing temperature rotational Raman lidar and Doppler wind lidar measurements.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Measuring sensible heat flux with high spatial density [PDF]

open access: yes2012 IEEE Sensors Applications Symposium Proceedings, 2012
Sensible heat flux is an essential quantity in the surface energy budget. Information about it is crucial for the derivation of models of air-surface interaction which in turn are needed for larger scale climate models. Sensible heat flux varies greatly across short distances and thus many sensors are required in order to obtain measurements of ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
