Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Multi-Wavelength Excitable Multicolor Upconversion and Ratiometric Luminescence Thermometry of Yb3+/Er3+ Co-Doped NaYGeO4 Microcrystals

open access: yesMolecules
Excitation wavelength controllable lanthanide upconversion allows for real-time manipulation of luminescent color in a composition-fixed material, which has been proven to be conducive to a variety of applications, such as optical anti-counterfeiting and

Influence of plant density and biological products on the formation of seed yield of maize lines under irrigation conditions [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Treatment with biological products resulted in an increase in the area of the assimilation apparatus by 1.7 to 2.4 thousand m²/ha.The application of Bio-gel led to an increase in leaf surface by 1.7 thousand m2/ha or 5.3%, and the treatment with Helafit ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Identification of Tamoxifen-Resistant Breast Cancer Cell Lines and Drug Response Signature

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2020
Breast cancer cell lines are frequently used to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the disease. However, a large proportion of cell lines are affected by problems such as mislabeling and cross-contamination.

A moving-part-free protamine-sensitive polymeric membrane electrode for sensitive biomedical analyses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Traditional potentiometric polyion-sensitive electrodes can only work effectively in samples with vigorous convection fulfilled by magnetic stirrer, electrode rotator, or other moving components.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Heterologous Expression and Enzymatic Properties of β-Glucuronidase from Clostridium perfringens and Its Application in Bilirubin Transformation

open access: yesMicroorganisms
β-glucuronidase is an important hydrolase, which plays an important role in drug metabolism, clinical diagnostics, and biotransformation. This study focuses on the heterologous expression, isolation, purification, and its enzymatic properties of β ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
