Beyond sensitivity, specificity and statistical independence

Statistics in Medicine, 1988
AbstractSensitivity and specificity have clear definitions when there is a single test for one disease, and the test is either positive or negative. This paper presents a unified appraoch for obtaining posterior probabilities (predictive values) when there are more than two test outcomes and/or more than one disease state.

Anxiety Sensitivity and Situation-Specific Drinking

Journal of Anxiety Disorders, 1998
To assess the typical drinking situations of high anxiety sensitive individuals, relative to low anxiety sensitive individuals, a large sample of university student drinkers (N = 396) completed the 42-item version of the Inventory of Drinking Situations (IDS-42) and the Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI).

Sensitivities and Specificities of Diagnostic Tests

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1982
To the Editor.— The article by Harris on "The Hazards of Bedside Bayes" (1981;236:2602) presents an important caution. However, it misrepresents the inherent variability in data on diagnostic tests that can be collected in well-designed studies, and may exaggerate the effective variability of data on tests now in the literature.

Sensitivity, Specificity, and Relatives

2011
This chapter introduces several notions fundamental for disease or device testing. The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of a test are measures of the performance of a diagnostic test and are intimately connected with probability calculations (estimations) and Bayes’ rule.
