Fault tolerance analysis of sensor systems
Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. No.99CH36304), 2003This paper deals with the analysis of fault tolerance properties of sensor systems. Observability, individual observability and pseudo-observability indexes are used to build minimal and pseudo-minimal sensor sets considering both global and partial state estimation.

Sensor fault detection in wireless sensor networks
IET International Communication Conference on Wireless Mobile & Computing (CCWMC 2009), 2009This paper presents a distributed fault detection algorithm for wireless sensor networks. Faulty sensor nodes are identified based on the similarity test of neighboring nodes and dissemination of the decision made at each node. By making use of temporal and spatial correlations among neighboring sensor nodes jointly, the proposed algorithm can find ...

Decentralized fault diagnosis for sensor networks
2009 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, 2009In this paper we study the problem of fault diagnosis for sensor networks. We examine faults that involve an anomalous behavior of the sensor and investigate their diagnosis only through the local interaction between faulty nodes and healthy ones. We provide heuristics to actively diagnose faults and recover the nominal behavior.

Sensor Location for Enhancing Fault Diagnosis
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2016Multivariate statistical control techniques have been successfully applied to the detection and isolation of process faults. Because those strategies evaluate the current process state using the measurement values and the normal operation model, their performance is strongly influenced by the sensor network installed in the plant.

Novel MPC‐Based Fault Tolerant Tracking Control Against Sensor Faults
Asian Journal of Control, 2018AbstractThe problem of active fault‐tolerant tracking control with control input and system output constraints is studied for a class of discrete‐time systems subject to sensor faults. A time‐varying fault‐tolerant observer is first developed to estimate the real system state from the faulty sensor output and control input signals.

A NN-based SFDIA scheme is proposed for the detection of multiple sensor faults in a nonlinear UAV model. In general, a group of sensors can fail simultaneously or consecutively (i.e. one at a time). In this chapter, we consider the latter scenario where a 1s time gap is allowed between consecutive sensor faults. However as before we assume that once a

Sensors used in the monitoring of machinery with the object of identifying faults are usually related to the dentification of physical and/or chemical changes. As a consequence, sensors are frequently similar to those employed for control purposes and, indeed, there is a considerable similarity between the two techniques.

Fault-tolerant decision fusion via collaborative sensor fault detection in wireless sensor networks
IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2008This work addresses fault-tolerant distributed decision fusion in the presence of sensor faults when local sensors sequentially send their local decisions to a fusion center. This work also proposes a collaborative sensor fault detection (CSFD) scheme for eliminating unreliable local decisions when performing distributed decision fusion. In particular,

This work proposes a sensor fault isolation scheme for co-existence of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) current sensor and non-sensor imbalance faults. The proposed method examines DC link battery current residuals to determine the location of machine current sensor and non-sensor imbalance faults.

In this chapter, a NN-based and EKF-based sensor fault detection and accommodation (SFDA) scheme are proposed and compared under different levels of unknown inputs and fault types. The schemes are tested on a nonlinear UAV model. The EKF is chosen as a representative of nonlinear (fixed) modelbased SFDA schemes which rely on a mathematical description ...
