Sensory profiling of fibre-enriched apple purées by using the Check-All-That-Apply method with school aged children

open access: yes, 2016
The inclusion of fibre in the diet has well-known positive effects on human health; however, consumers often perceive fibre-enriched products as unpleasant due to dark color, bitter flavor and a coarse texture.

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Racial Profiling: National Legislation Policy Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Racial profiling was traditionally viewed as an issue that primarily affected African-Americans and Latino Americans. After September 11th the issue of racial profiling has expanded to more directly affect Central and South Asian Americans, Arab ...

L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

PROS-1/Prospero Is a Major Regulator of the Glia-Specific Secretome Controlling Sensory-Neuron Shape and Function in C. elegans

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Sensory neurons are an animal’s gateway to the world, and their receptive endings, the sites of sensory signal transduction, are often associated with glia.

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Gene profiling of identified neurons to dissect molecular mechanisms involved in spinal reflex assembly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The central question during my PhD studies was to understand the molecular mechanisms and genetic cascades controlling the sequential specification of distinct classes of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) sensory neurons, with a particular focus on genes ...

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.

Characterization of Texas Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat Wines

open access: yesBeverages
Texas wines remain underrepresented in the scientific literature, and combined chemical and sensory datasets for key varieties are limited. This study characterized the physicochemical, phenolic, volatile, metabolomic, and sensory profiles of 26 Texas ...

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...
