Sentinel-1A – First precise orbit determination results

open access: yesAdvances in Space Research, 2017
Sentinel-1A is the first satellite of the European Copernicus programme. Equipped with a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) instrument the satellite was launched on April 3, 2014. Operational since October 2014 the satellite delivers valuable data for more than two years. The orbit accuracy requirements are given as 5 cm in 3D.

Rice-Field Mapping with Sentinel-1A SAR Time-Series Data [PDF]

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
This study proposed a feature-based decision method for the mapping of rice cultivation by using the time-series C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data provided by Sentinel-1A. In this study, a model related to crop growth was first established.

Sentinel-1A: Analysis of FDBAQ Performance on Real Data

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2015
This paper concerns the performance of the flexible dynamic block adaptive quantizer (FDBAQ), which is the onboard data compression scheme used by Sentinel-1 (S-1), i.e., the C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) constellation whose first satellite (Sentinel-1A) has been launched on April 3, 2014. The data rate that results from the fine resolution and

Preliminary Evaluation of Sentinel-1A Wind Speed Retrievals

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2016
The accuracy of wind speed retrievals from synthetic aperture radars (SARs) is strongly dependent upon the accuracy of the normalized radar cross section measurement. Here, we make a preliminary assessment of wind speed retrievals from Sentinel-1A. In particular, we use Sentinel-1A SAR imagery to compute wind speed at 500-m resolution.

Radiometric accuracy and stability of sentinel-1A determined using point targets [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microwave and Wireless Technologies, 2018
ABSTRACTSentinel-1A is a space-borne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system developed in the frame of the Copernicus Program. The German Aerospace Center supported the radiometric and polarimetric calibration of Sentinel-1A by the analysis of point target responses of several acquisitions considering different modes, beams, and polarization channels. Lake Ice Classification from Sentinel-1A 2015 - 2018

open access: yes, 2018
In the ESA DUE GlobPermafrost project lake ice classifications were produced to distinguish grounded ice and floating ice in lakes in Barrow (Arctic Alaska, US), Teshekpuk (Arctic Alaska, US), Mackenzie Delta (Beaufort Sea Region, CA), Kytalyk (Central ...

Verifying the Geometric Accuracy of Sentinel-1A and Sentinel-1B using L0Products [PDF]

open access: yes12th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP 2018), 2018
The geometric accuracy of Sentinel-1 is usally derived from level-1 products in Stripmap mode using accurate surveyed corner reflector positions. While the range offset is found to be low (~30 cm) an azimuth offset of about 2 m remains. The study investigates the reason for the geometric offsets by deriving the geometric parameters from L0-data ...

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Sentinel-1 FDBAQ Performance Validation Using TerraSAR-X Data

open access: yes, 2012
Two Block Adaptive Quantization (BAQ) algorithms considered for implementation on-board Sentinel-1, the Entropy Constrained BAQ (ECBAQ) and the Flexible Dynamic BAQ (FDBAQ) are investigated with real data acquired by TerraSAR-X.

When Poor Exciton Dissociation Limits Photocurrents in Organic Solar Cells: Why Low Offset Non‐Fullerene Acceptor Blends Can't Be Efficient

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The energetic offset between the donor and the acceptor components in organic photoactive layers is central to the tradeoff between photovoltage and photocurrent losses. This Perspective covers the most important issues surrounding this topic in non‐fullerene acceptor blends, from the difficulty of accurately determining state energies and driving ...
