The Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Breast Cancer
Acta Chirurgica Belgica, 2002To evaluate the possibility and accuracy of this new diagnostic approach to the breast cancer disease in our centre.Since March 1999, every patient presenting with a cT1-T2 N0 breast carcinoma was scheduled for a sentinel lymph node search. An injection of Tc-99 labelled nanocolloïd with a dose of 1 mCu was injected either intramammary or intradermally.

Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy: An Overview
2010The original concept of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is attributed to Cabanas, who described use of the technique for the treatment and staging of penile cancer. The concept of SLNB was revived 15 years later by Morton et al., in their work using lymphatic mapping with blue dye in patients with melanoma. Ultimately, Alex and Krag introduced use of

Development of sentinel lymph node biopsy for melanoma
Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North America, 2003For all solid neoplasms, with the possible exception of thyroid cancer, regional lymph node metastasis is the most important determinant of survival. Therapeutic lymph node dissection for clinically apparent nodal disease remains the standard of care for regional control of disease, but the benefits of elective lymph node dissection (ELND) (ie ...

Sentinel lymph node biopsy for melanoma
Current Diagnostic Pathology, 2003Abstract Currently, pathological assessment of sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy for melanoma is recommended to be performed on tissue around a central plane, achieved by bivalving the node through the hilum and its longest axis. Six paired sections stained with H&E and S100 at 50- μ intervals should be assessed in order to define a detection of ...

Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy for Melanoma
2018Intraoperative lymphatic mapping and selective sentinel lymphadenectomy (ILM and SLND) has dramatically altered the surgical management of the regional lymphatics in cutaneous melanoma. Once considered a standard component in the surgical management of patients with cutaneous melanoma, immediate complete lymph node dissection (CLND) or elective lymph ...

DCIS and Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy
2015This article provides evidence-based guidelines for the appropriate management of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) in patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Invasive cancer can often be intimately associated with DCIS. With minimally invasive core biopsy techniques, 20 % of preoperatively diagnosed DCIS will be upstaged to invasive cancer on final
