Das Konzept der Sentinel-Lymphknoten-Entnahme basiert auf der Annahme, dass es immer einen oder einige wenige Lymphknoten gibt,die aus einem Tumor freigesetzte Tumorzellen primar aufnehmen. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, Makro- oder Mikrometastasen bzw. isolierte Tumorzellen aufzufinden, ist damit in diesem Lymphknoten am grosten.
