Resilient Calvarial Bone Marrow Supports Retinal Repair in Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Skull bone (calvarium) marrow in diabetic mice stay structurally intact and keeps making blood cells, unlike the bone marrow of the leg bones. The skull marrow is exposed to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which contains protective molecules called oxysterols.

Immunoaffinity‐Mimetic Assembly of Peptide‐Aptamer Conjugates and Stem Cell‐Derived Exosomes into Hierarchical Microgels for Spinal Cord Injury Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by antibody‐antigen binding, this study develops an unprecedented immunoaffinity‐mimetic assembly strategy, with Peptide‐AptCD63 conjugates acting as antibody surrogates binding CD63 epitopes on mesenchymal stem cell‐derived exosomes. This creates a hierarchical microstructure intended to synergistically integrate antioxidative and anti ...

Lymphoscintigraphy Defines New Lymphatic Pathways from Cutaneous Melanoma Site: Clinical Implications and Surgical Management

open access: yesRadiology Research and Practice, 2011
Sentinel lymph node biopsy is commonly applied as staging procedure of regional lymph nodes in patients with cutaneous melanoma. Dynamic lymphoscintigraphy defines the lymphatic pathways from a primary melanoma site and allows to identify the node ...

Plant structural complexity and mechanical defenses mediate predator-prey interactions in an odonate-bird system. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Habitat-forming species provide refuges for a variety of associating species; these refuges may mediate interactions between species differently depending on the functional traits of the habitat-forming species.

ACSL1‐Dependent Microglial Lipoimmunometabolic Reprogramming Underlies Cognitive Deficits in Alcohol Use Disorder

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that chronic alcohol exposure selectively upregulates ACSL1 expression in prefrontal cortical microglia, driving lipid metabolism reprogramming and lipid droplet accumulation, which activates the NLRP3 inflammasome and sustains neuroinflammation. To reverse this process, a dual‐targeted lipid nanoparticle, siACSL1@LNP‐MR, is designed

Fifteen new risk loci for coronary artery disease highlight arterial-wall-specific mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although 58 genomic regions have been associated with CAD thus far, most of the heritability is unexplained, indicating that additional susceptibility loci await ...

Integrated monitoring and evaluation and environmental risk factors for urogenital schistosomiasis and active trachoma in Burkina Faso before preventative chemotherapy using sentinel sites

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2011
BackgroundOver 1 billion of the world's poorest inhabitants are afflicted by neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Integrated control programmes aimed at tackling these debilitating NTDs have been recently initiated, mainly using preventative chemotherapy.

Cascade‐Responsive MXene@Cu‐MOF Heterostructure Integrates Antioxidant Activity, Infection Control, and Vascularization for Tracheal Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cascade‐responsive MXene@Cu‐MOF/GelMA hydrogel is engineered as a “skeleton–backpack” platform for extensive tracheal repair. The MXene framework scavenges postoperative ROS and converts NIR light into mild hyperthermia, while the Cu‐MOF component provides pH/NIR‐responsive Cu2+ dosing for infection control, angiogenesis, and chondrogenesis.
