Control of shock-induced boundary layer separation at supersonic speeds

open access: yes, 2007
PhDThe results of a systematic experimental investigation into the effects that Sub- Boundary Layer Vortex Generators (SBVGs) have on reducing normal shock-induced turbulent boundary layer separation are presented.

Minimum amount of extracting solvent for AB/BC countercurrent separation using aqueous feed

open access: yes, 2014
A novel solvent countercurrent extraction separation technology which can dramatically save the use of acid and alkali during multi-component separation using acidic extractants, hyperlink extraction technology, has been widely applied in rare earth ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Comparison of micellar electrokinetic chromatography and microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography for separation of pharmacologically active xanthones from Securidaca inappendiculata

open access: yes, 2003
Micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) and microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) have been investigated for the separation of nine xanthones from Securidaca inappendiculata, based on the systematic optimization of such parameters as ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Temperature-based tuning of magnetic particle separation by on-chip free-flow magnetophoresis

open access: yes, 2009
This paper was presented at the 2nd Micro and Nano Flows Conference (MNF2009), which was held at Brunel University, West London, UK. The conference was organised by Brunel University and supported by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, IPEM, the ...

Application of Magnetic Separation Technology in Resource Utilization and Environmental Treatment

open access: yes
Magnetic separation technology is a physical separation method that uses the differences in magnetism between matter to separate them from each other by different motion behaviors in a non-uniform magnetic field.
