Exploring the use of distance education technology for lifestyle change

open access: yes, 2011
Obesity affects over 100 million men, women, and children in North America alone and has reached what health professionals deem to be epidemic proportions.

The preliminary successes and drawbacks of a turn to distance design studio learning.

open access: yes, 2020
It seems the technological campuses of tomorrow have manifested today as an essential and spontaneous response to the COVID-19 world outbreak. This article briefly discusses the current pivot from an on-campus physical design studio curriculum towards a ...

Regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1 by p53‐ΔNp63 crosstalk modulates the DNA damage response and therapeutic efficacy in HNSCC

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) p53 and p63 exert opposite roles on the transcription regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1. Under basal conditions, p53 levels are low and p63 represses NEAT1 expression. Upon genotoxic stress, p53 is rapidly induced, displacing p63 from the NEAT1 promoter leading to NEAT1 transcriptional activation and ...

Acto-myosin force organization modulates centriole separation and PLK4 recruitment to ensure centriole fidelity

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Centriolar separation is thought to be crucial for centriole duplication, but the mechanism behind separation is poorly understood. Here, using micropatterning, the authors report that actomyosin forces influence the direction, distance, and time of ...

Unique circulating miRNAome signatures captured with distinct molecular states in Lynch syndrome and sporadic colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNA profiles distinguish nonmalignant Lynch syndrome from cancer‐associated Lynch syndrome, sporadic colorectal cancer, and healthy controls. Age‐stratified analysis reveals disease‐specific regulatory states, and a six‐miRNA panel shows concordant separation in an independent colorectal tissue cohort.

Acquisition of Soft Skills and Affective Outcomes in Online Distance Education: A Secondary School Study

open access: yes, 2008
Canada is facing a shortage of workers skilled in affective outcomes, specifically soft skills. Some fingers are pointing to the primary and secondary institutions for failing to aptly prepare future employees with those skills.

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Developing a conceptual framework for planning distributed education within Alberta’s comprehensive community institutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Previous research has revealed challenges faced by post-secondary institutions (PSIs) seeking to add or expand distributed education options within institutional contexts originally developed to support more traditional, face-to-face classroom learning.
