A definition of separation efficiency.

open access: yesJOURNAL OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING OF JAPAN, 1978
By using the entropy of information theory, a more reasonable separation efficiency can be defined from the point of view of statistics. This newly defined separation efficiency varies from zero for the case of non-separation, in which the mass fractions of valuable component in both product and residuum take the same values as that in feed, to unity ...

A multi-objective genetic algorithm for the design of pressure swing adsorption [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) is a cyclic separation process, more advantageous over other separation options for middle scale processes. Automated tools for the design of PSA processes would be beneficial for the development of the technology, but ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Impact of quantized vibrations on the efficiency of interfacial charge separation in photovoltaic devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We demonstrate that charge separation at donor-acceptor interfaces is a complex process that is controlled by the combined action of Coulomb binding for electron-hole pairs and partial relaxation due to quantized phonons.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Problems with Intake Air Filtration in Piston and Turbine Combustion Engines Used in Conditions of High Air Dust Content

open access: yesEnergies
The operating conditions of engines in motor vehicles used in conditions of high air dustiness resulting from sandy ground and helicopters using temporary landing sites were analyzed. The impact of mineral dust on accelerated abrasive and erosive wear of

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

The Aharonov-Bohm Effect and Transport Properties in Graphene Nanostructures

open access: yesAnnals of West University of Timisoara: Physics, 2013
This paper investigates the possibility to improve the filtering process of flue gas by separation of suspended nanoparticle using dielectrophoresis. The study focuses on the particles having an average radius of about 50-150 nm, that cannot be filtrated
