Semiclassical quantization of a separatrix map
Physical Review E, 1996Semiclassical quantization of a separatrix map is presented. An effective Hamiltonian is constructed as a function of the action-angle canonical pair. The quantum dynamics of the system is analyzed for the case of high-frequency perturbation. An explicit form of the Floquet evolution operator is obtained in the unperturbed basis.

Semiclassical quantization of separatrix maps
Physical Review E, 2003Quantization of energy balance equations, which describe a separatrixlike motion is presented. The method is based on an exact canonical transformation of the energy-time pair to the action-angle canonical pair, (E,t)-->(I,theta). Quantum mechanical dynamics can be studied in the framework of the new Hamiltonian.

Physical Review Letters, 2009Large tokamaks capable of fusion power production such as ITER, should avoid large edge localized modes (ELMs), thought to be triggered by an ideal magnetohydrodynamic instability due to current at the plasma's separatrix boundary. Unlike analytical work in a cylindrical approximation, numerical work finds the modes are stable.

It is assumed that the phase portrait (‘‘phase plane’’) of the unperturbed system is divided by separatrices into several regions and that under the action of the perturbations phase points can cross these separatrices.

Magnetic separatrix experiments in JET
Nuclear Fusion, 1987Magnetic separatrix configurations have been produced in JET for plasma currents of up to 3 MA. Experimental results obtained with these configurations show that some features can be achieved that are common to divertor tokamaks. In Ohmic discharges, high recycling regimes can be produced.
