Tokamak Edge Plasma Turbulence Interaction with Magnetic X-Point in 3D Global Simulations
Turbulence in the edge plasma of a tokamak is a key actor in the determination of the confinement properties. The divertor configuration seems to be beneficial for confinement, suggesting an effect on turbulence of the particular magnetic geometry ...

Divertor Heat Load in ASDEX Upgrade L-Mode in Presence of External Magnetic Perturbation [PDF]
Power exhaust is one of the major challenges for a future fusion device. Applying a non-axisymmetric external magnetic perturbation is one technique that is studied in order to mitigate or suppress large edge localized modes which accompany the high ...

Thin current sheets caused by plasma flow gradients in space and astrophysical plasma [PDF]
Strong gradients in plasma flows play a major role in space and astrophysical plasmas. A typical situation is that a static plasma equilibrium is surrounded by a plasma flow, which can lead to strong plasma flow gradients at the separatrices between ...

Trajectory analysis for non-Brownian inertial suspensions in simple shear flow [PDF]
We analyse pair trajectories of equal-sized spherical particles in simple shear flow for small but finite Stokes numbers. The Stokes number, $\mbox{\textit{St}} \,{=}\, \dot{\gamma} \tau_p$, is a dimensionless measure of particle inertia; here, $\tau_p ...

Observations of separatrix motion during the formation of a field-reversed configuration [PDF]
An axial array of B/sub z/ probes is used to monitor the formation and initial motion of the x-point of the separatrix in a field-reversed configuration. The x-point is observed to form near the outside edge of the main coil at approximately 3.0 ..mu..s after main field initiation and then move rapidly toward the center of the coil.

On the force-free magnetosphere of aligned rotator [PDF]
We investigate in details properties of stationary force-free magnetosphere of aligned rotator assuming the last closed field line lying in equatorial plane at large distances from pulsar.

The influence of plasma beta effects on the edge plasma transport in the Wendelstein 7-X standard configuration is studied systematically by using EMC3-EIRENE combined with a 3D equilibrium code named HINT. The magnetic topology changes induced by plasma

Resonance breaking due to dissipation in planar planetary systems [PDF]
We study the evolution of two planets around a star, in mean-motion resonance and undergoing tidal effect. We derive an integrable analytical model of mean-motion resonances of any order which reproduce the main features of the resonant dynamics.

On the nature of reconnection at a solar coronal null point above a separatrix dome [PDF]
Three-dimensional magnetic null points are ubiquitous in the solar corona, and in any generic mixed-polarity magnetic field. We consider magnetic reconnection at an isolated coronal null point, whose fan field lines form a dome structure.

Separatrix radius measurement of field-reversed configuration plasma in FRX-L
Magnetic pickup coils and single turn flux loops are installed on the FRX-L device. The combination of the two measurements provides the excluded flux radius that approximates the separatrix radius of the field-reversed configuration (FRC) plasma. Arrays of similar probes are used to map out local magnetic field dynamics beyond both ends of the theta ...
