LPS-induced Pellino3 degradation is mediated by p62-dependent autophagy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: In macrophages Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) is activated in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and induces proinflammatory cytokine expression. Therefore, mechanisms terminating proinflammatory gene expression are important.

Reengineering Endogenous Targeting Lipid Nanoparticles (ENDO) for Systemic Delivery of mRNA to Pancreas

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ENDO lipid nanoparticles containing cholecalciferol as a fifth component demonstrate mRNA delivery to the pancreas with 99% selectivity, including beta cells. This platform shows minimal toxicity and sustained protein expression for up to 3 days in a dose‐dependent manner, offering a novel approach to pancreas‐specific mRNA delivery and gene therapy ...

Kinetic characterization of selective peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor gamma modulators in vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: The ligand-activated transcription factor, peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), has been shown to play an essential role in immunosuppression during sepsis.

Therapy of sepsis [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Microbiology and Infection, 1997
The term 'sepsis' is often used synonymously with 'infection' or 'bacteremia'. Additional definitions, e.g. 'systemic inflammatory response syndrome', have been proposed. These terms have been employed to establish entry criteria for clinical trials of antibiotic therapy and adjunctive therapies. It may be appropriate to utilize these descriptions when

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Electrical Monitoring of Vibrio vulnificus–Host Cell Membrane Interactions in Simple and Complex Matrices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Supported lipid bilayers coupled with multielectrode array devices offer significant promise for pathogen–host cell membrane interaction studies. This work demonstrates, for the first time, the compatibility of this platform with biological fluids, in this case whole human blood, essential for any future point‐of‐care applications; as well as its ...

Effects of different dosages/frequency of Xuebijing injection (a Chinese patent) for sepsis: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
ObjectiveXuebijing injection (XBJ) has been widely recognized in the treatment of sepsis, however, inadequate information regarding XBJ's optimal dosage and frequency suffice.

An Anti‐Myd88 Peptide Synergistically Enhances the Anti‐Inflammatory Effects of Extracellular Vesicles from Naïve Umbilical Cord MSC or HEK293F CD24 Overexpressing Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study confirms that extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) or HEK293F cells overexpressing CD24 have anti‐inflammatory effects in macrophages and monocytes. Further loading either of these EVs with an anti‐Myd88 peptide synergistically enhanced the anti‐inflammatory effects of the EVs.

Temporal progression of gene regulation of peripheral white blood cells explains gender dimorphism of critically ill patients after trauma

open access: yesMolecular Medicine, 2019
Background The immune response of the critically ill after severe trauma is sex-specific and may explain the different progression of the disease. This may be explained by a different gene regulatory program of their peripheral immune cells.
