Camel Streptococcus agalactiae populations are associated with specific disease complexes and acquired the tetracycline resistance gene tetM via a Tn916-like element [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Camels are the most valuable livestock species in the Horn of Africa and play a pivotal role in the nutritional sustainability for millions of people.

An improved four‐layer capacitor voltage control strategy combined with arm current control for transformerless modular multilevel converters

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, 2023
In order to improve the performance of the transformerless modular multilevel converters (MMC) under AC and DC grid fault conditions, this paper proposes an improved four‐layer capacitor voltage control strategy combined with arm current control.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Norms of certain operators on weighted L-spaces and Lorentz sequence spaces. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The problem addressed is the exact determination of the norms of the classical Hilbert, Copson and averaging operators on weighted spaces and the corresponding Lorentz sequence spaces , with the power weighting sequence or the variant defined by .

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

$2$-term averaging $L_\infty$-algebras and non-abelian extensions of averaging Lie algebras

open access: yes, 2023
In recent years, averaging operators on Lie algebras (also called embedding tensors in the physics literature) and associated tensor hierarchies form an efficient tool for constructing supergravity and higher gauge theories.

Fast Average-Case Pattern Matching on Weighted Sequences [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Foundations of Computer Science, 2018
A weighted string is a string in which a set of letters may occur at each position with respective occurrence probabilities. Weighted strings, also known as position weight matrices, weighted sequences or uncertain sequences, naturally arise in many contexts.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Averaging and orthogonal operators on variable exponent spaces L-p(.) (Omega)

open access: yes, 2014
Corrigendum to “Averaging and orthogonal operators on variable exponent spaces Lp(·) (Ω)” [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 413 (1) (2014)139–153]Given a measurable space (Omega, mu) and a sequence of disjoint measurable subsets A = (A(n))(n), the associated ...
