Multivariate Sequences of Binomial Type

Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1977
Using the notion of convolution of binomial sequences it is possible to show that Sheffer sequences, cross sequences, and Steffensen sequences are only mild generalizations of ordinary sequences of binomial type.

Type Sequences of Numerical Semigroups

Semigroup Forum, 1998
A numerical semigroup (briefly n.s.) \(S\subseteq\mathbb{N}\cup\{0\}\) is a subsemigroup of \((\mathbb{N},+)\) with \(0\in S\). Note that every n.s. is finitely generated. If \(g(S)=\max\{x\in\mathbb{Z}\setminus S\}\) is the so called Frobenius number of \(S\) and \(n(S)=\text{Card}(\{0,1,\dots,g(S)\}\cap S)\) then \(S=\{0=s_0,s_1,\dots,s_{n-1},s_n=g(S)

Polynomial Sequences of Interpolatory Type

Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1993
Continuing his previous investigations [ibid. 79, No. 1, 65-92 (1988; Zbl 0696.05004), \((*)\) Adv. Math. 58, 89-108 (1985; Zbl 0583.05010) and ibid. 85, 215-242 (1991)], the author studies sequences of polynomials which are well suited for Hermite interpolation from the point of view of convergence, computing the coefficient, evaluations and ...

On the Completeness of an Exponential Type Sequence

Acta Mathematica Hungarica, 2000
Confirming a conjecture of P. Erdős, in 1959 \textit{B. J. Birch} [Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 55, 370-373 (1959; Zbl 0093.05003)] proved that for any coprime integers \(p, q>1\) every sufficiently large integer is a sum of distinct numbers of the form \(p^\alpha q^\beta \).

PCR-DNA Sequence Typing

2003
There is a great need to develop molecular techniques for the typing of Helicobacter pylori isolates since classical bacteriological assays, such as serotyping or lysotyping, are lacking. Such techniques would provide the microbiologist with the tools necessary to differentiate one strain from another one (essential for epidemiological studies), to ...

Degrees of types and independent sequences

Journal of Symbolic Logic, 1983
The theories considered here are countable and complete, and the types are all complete too. Let T be an L-theory. A sequence σ = (σn(ν))n∈ω of L-formulas is said to be independent (with respect to T) if for each α ∈ 2<ω, the sentenceis in T. As an example, let T = Th(Z, +), and let σ be the sequence of formulas saying (in the language of groups) ν ...

Identification of New Sequence Types for Multilocus Sequence Typing of Pediococcus pentosaceus

Food Engineering Progress, 2015
The genus Pediococcus belongs to the lactic acid bacteria and includes 15 species which are used in the food industry as both starter and probiotic cultures. The importance of Pediococcus spp. is due to their use as starter cultures in fermented meat as well as to their presence as the natural microbiota in vegetables. The availability

Multi-Locus Sequence Typing

2003
It has recently become apparent that many bacterial populations undergo extremely high levels of horizontal genetic exchange, such that traditional clonal models of bacterial diversity are now inadequate (1-3). Such recombination is especially apparent in naturally transformable bacteria such as members of the genus Neisseria (4). This has implications

Sequencing as an item type

Language Testing, 2000
A text’s coherence clearly depends upon the way ideas are related within that text, both in terms of their logical relations, as well as the cohesive devices that show, or create, the links between ideas, across paragraphs and sentences. Thus, it would appear that part of the ability of a competent reader is to recognize the appropriate order of ideas ...

Unsupervised Learning of Sequencing Read Types

Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, 2017
In this work, we present a novel method for improvement of de novo genome assembly which is based on detection of chimeric and repeat reads. Using this information, we can facilitate the detection of unique sequences which results in more contiguous final sequences.
