Genomic Characterization of Streptococcus suis Serotype 24 Clonal Complex 221/234 From Human Patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Streptococcus suis is a zoonotic pathogen that causes invasive infections in humans and pigs. Although S. suis serotype 2 is prevalent among patient and swine infections, other serotypes are occasionally detected in humans.

Typing Plasmids with Distributed Sequence Representation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Multidrug resistant bacteria represent an increasing challenge for medicine. In bacteria, most antibiotic resistances are transmitted by plasmids. Therefore, it is important to study the spread of plasmids in detail in order to initiate possible countermeasures.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Occurrence of VIM-4 metallo-β-lactamase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa in an Algerian hospital

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2019
Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common nosocomial pathogens, known with a wide resistance to antimicrobials. Carbapenemases producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a growing global public health concern as this pathogen is easily ...

Nonclonal Burkholderia pseudomallei Population in Melioidosis Case Cluster, Sri Lanka

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2021
A melioidosis case cluster of 10 blood culture–positive patients occurred in eastern Sri Lanka after an extreme weather event. Four infections were caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei isolates of sequence type 594.

blaCTX-M-27–Encoding Escherichia coli Sequence Type 131 Lineage C1-M27 Clone in Clinical Isolates, Germany

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2017
We examined extended-spectrum β-lactamase–producing isolates from livestock, humans, companion animals, food, and the environment during 2009–2016 in Germany for the presence of CTX-M-27 allele within Escherichia coli sequence type (ST) 131. E.

Multilocus sequence typing of IncN plasmids [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2011
Incompatibility group N (IncN) plasmids have been associated with the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance and are a major vehicle for the spread of bla(VIM-1) in humans and bla(CTX-M-1) in animals. A plasmid multilocus sequence typing (pMLST) scheme was developed for rapid categorization of IncN plasmids.Twelve fully sequenced IncN plasmids ...

Clinical Characteristics and Prognostic Risk Factors for Pediatric B‐Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study for China Net Childhood Lymphoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background B‐cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (B‐LBL) represents a rare variety of non‐Hodgkin lymphoma, with limited research on its biology, progression, and management. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical characteristics of 256 patients aged ≤18 years who received treatment under the China Net Childhood Lymphoma (CNCL)‐
