Limits of Efficiency in Sequential Auctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We study the efficiency of sequential first-price item auctions at (subgame perfect) equilibrium. This auction format has recently attracted much attention, with previous work establishing positive results for unit-demand valuations and negative results for submodular valuations.

Sequential procurement auctions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Public Economics, 1986
Abstract Two auctions are held in sequence with the possibility of learning between the second and the first. The buyer optimally chooses to discriminate against the winner of the first auction in the second. The optimal mechanism has a discontinuity in the winner's second bid; this strictly dominates a sequence of independent sealed bid auctions.

Uncovering renewable energy policy impact channels on land values, the local farm structure, and farmland heterogeneity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Germany's Renewable Energy Sources Act (REA), enacted in 2000 and subsequently amended, subsidized national renewable energy production with fixed feed‐in tariffs for renewable energy sources (RE) from wind, solar, and biogas. Empirical studies suggest that the policy was creating windfall effects for landowners and attribute farmland use ...

Sequential Auctions in Uncertain Information Settings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper analyzes sequential auctions for private value objects using second-price sealed-bid rules. Now, the equilibrium bids for such auctions depend on the information uncertainty of the bidders. Specifically, there are three key auction parameters that the bidders could be uncertain about: the valuations of the objects for sale, the number of ...
