Demonstrating the sustainable approach in valorizing the Citrus limetta peel

open access: yesFood Chemistry Advances
The present study details using sweet lime (Citrus limetta) peel waste in a sequential extraction process to obtain essential oil, hesperidin, and pectin to align with sustainable practices and promote a circular economy.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A Study on the Removal of Copper (II) from Aqueous Solution Using Lime Sand Bricks

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Heavy metals such as Cu(II), if ubiquitous in the runoff, can have adverse effects on the environment and human health. Lime sand bricks, as low-cost adsorbents to be potentially applied in stormwater infiltration facilities, were systematically ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Infrared spectroscopy-based metabolomic analysis of maize growing under different nitrogen nutrition

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2010
For metabolomic analysis of maize plants growing under different nitrogen nutrition sequential extraction of fresh biomass was used and isolated fractions were characterized and evaluated using IR spectra.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Solanesol sequential extraction from tobacco leaves using microwave-ultrasound-assisted extraction (MUAE): MAE optimization

open access: yesCurrent Research in Green and Sustainable Chemistry
Solanesol (C45H74O) is an aliphatic terpene alcohol of nine isoprene units found in the tobacco plant (Nicotiana Tabacum L.). The long and complex biosynthetic pathway of solanesol makes the extraction method still the best way to obtain solanesol.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Frações de zinco em solo arenoso e suas relações com disponibilidade para Cynodon spp cv. Tifton-85 Zinc fractions in a sandy soil and its relations with availability to Cynodon spp cv. Tifton-85
