Antioxidative enzymes during germination of two lines of Serbian spruce [Picea omorika (Panc.) Purkyně] [PDF]
Two lines of Picea omorika (Panc.) Purkyn? were compared with respect to germination percentage as well as specific activity and isoenzyme pattern of catalase, superoxide dismutase, and peroxidase (POD) during germination. Line A had a higher germination percentage and higher enzyme activities in dry seeds and seedlings compared to line C.

Compression strength perpendicular to grain of Serbian spruce (Picea omorika (Pančić) purkyně) wood from plantations and natural stands [PDF]
This paper presents the results of testing the compression of Serbian spruce wood from plantations and natural stands. Compression perpendicular to grain in radial and tangential direction was tested.

Towards the dynamic conservation of Serbian spruce (Picea omorika) western populations [PDF]
Key messageHigh levels of genetic diversity, pronounced genetic structure and limitations to gene flow in Serbian spruce, a rare and endangered tree species from the refugial Balkan region, point towards a “one population-one unit” strategy for assembling a network of Genetic Conservation Units (GCUs) for its dynamic conservation.

Climate change threatens on endangered relict Serbian spruce [PDF]
Abstract The increase in length and severity of drought events predicted for South-Eastern Europe are expected to engender important changes to remaining native forests. To make informed management decisions promoting their conservation, it is important to better understand their responses to climate and environmental disturbances. In this study, we

Tailoring conservation to suit Serbian spruce [PDF]
Mediterranean forest tree species are particularly sensitive to the global climate warming, and two Mediterranean conifers, Sicilian fir and Serbian spruce, stand out as currently the most threatened ones due to their extremely narrow distribution range. Both species are IUCN-red listed and protected by the law.

The hardness of Serbian spruce wood
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the hardness of Serbian spruce wood in the axial, radial and tangential directions and its dependence on wood density. Hardness is a crucial mechanical propriety of wood and it positively correlates with density. In addition, it depends on the anatomical direction and can vary by up to 50% within the same species ...

Wood density variation in Serbian Spruce: A comparative study of natural stands and plantations
Serbian spruce (Picea omorika Pančić/Purkyně) is a Tertiary relict and an endemic species of the Balkan Peninsula, whose limited distribution range and pronounced ecological specificity make the study of its physical properties particularly important ...

Spatial distribution of spruce trees in the nature reserve 'Jankove bare' on mt. Kopaonik [PDF]
The methodology and applicability of the study of spatial distribution of trees in Serbian forestry have been insufficiently reported and presented. This paper, based on mathematicalstatistical principles, analyses the method of spatial distribution of ...

Multiple forms of superoxide dismutase in the apoplast and whole-needle extract of Serbian spruce [Picea omorika (Panč.) Purkyně] [PDF]
Activity and isoenzyme composition of superoxide dismutase in the apoplast and whole-needle extract of Picea omorika (Panč.) Purkyně, was studied. Total SOD activity of the soluble fraction of the needle extract exceeded markedly that of the apoplastic ...

Allele polymorphism of Nad1 gene of the Serbian spruce mitochondrial genome
Serbian spruce (Picea omorika /Panc./Purkyne), as the Balkan Peninsula endemic and the Tertiary relic, is a species whose survival is threatened by the constant restriction of its range caused by the global changes of environmental conditions and the adverse human impacts.
