Comparison of active power filters with series-connected capacitor

2008 IEEE 2nd International Power and Energy Conference, 2008
In this paper, a method for reducing the voltage stresses on power components and power losses in a shunt voltage source and current source active power filters (VSAPF and CSAPF) is presented. The method is based on series capacitor structure, which is used to block the fundamental supply voltage component.

Power Factor Correction Using a Series Active Filter

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2005
This work presents a low-cost approach to power factor correction (PFC) of single-phase diode rectifiers using a series active filter. Comparing with the traditional PFC, the proposed PFC has lower requirements of power device ratings, which leads to lower cost, higher efficiency, and lower electromagnetic interference.

Power factor correction using a series active filter

IEEE 34th Annual Conference on Power Electronics Specialist, 2003. PESC '03., 2003
This paper present a low-cost approach to power factor correction (PFC) for single-phase diode rectifiers using a series active filter. Comparing with the traditional PFC, the proposed PFC has lower requirements of power device ratings, which leads to lower cost and higher efficiency, and it also can eliminate the bulky inductor needed in the ...

Performance Analysis of Series Hybrid Active Power Filter

2013
In the area of active power filtering, the Series Hybrid Active Power Filter (SHAPF) has been taken into account increasingly. Existing methods used for controlling SHAPF are either based on detecting source current harmonics or load voltage harmonics.

Design and implementation of a hybrid series active filter system

Proceedings of PESC '95 - Power Electronics Specialist Conference, 2002
A hybrid series active filter system has been designed, built and installed at Beverly Pump Station in New England Electric Power Company utility for 765 kVA, 480 V adjustable speed drive load to comply with IEEE 519 recommended harmonic standards. The series active filter has a small rating-35 kVA which is 4% of the load kVA-and is controlled by a ...

Series Active Power Filter for Power Quality Improvement

Engineering World
The paper discusses the theoretical framework and operating principles of the SAPF, including its control strategies based on instantaneous reactive power theory and synchronous reference frame theory. The design criteria for the SAPF components, such as the voltage source inverter, DC link capacitor, and coupling transformer, are also elaborated to ...

Saturation influence on the performances of series active power filter

2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics, 2009
This paper presents a study on the injection transformer, showing the influence of its saturation on the performances of the series active power filter to compensate the voltage perturbation. The determination of voltage references for series active power filter is based on a robust three-phase digital phase locked loop (PLL).
