Identification and Characterization of Burkholderia pseudomallei K96243 Serine and Metallopeptidases

open access: yes, 2012
Burkholderia pseudomallei K96243, the causative agent of melioidosis, is reported to produce various extracellular products, including proteases. The role of these proteases in the melioidosis, however, remains obscure.

Pathochemical role of serine protease in tumor progression and metastasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Background. Serine proteases (SP) are endopeptidases that are secreted by both cancer cells and stromal cells and have attracted great attention owing to their elevated expression and dysregulated activity in the tumor microenvironment (TME ...

Specific fluorogenic substrates for neprilysin (neutral endopeptidase, EC 3.4.24.11) which are highly resistant to serine- and metalloproteases [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 1997
Two intramolecularly quenched fluorogenic peptides containing o-aminobenzoyl (Abz) and ethylenediamine 2,4-dinitrophenyl (EDDnp) groups at amino- and carboxyl-terminal amino acid residues, Abz-DArg-Arg-Leu-EDDnp (Abz-DRRL-EDDnp) and Abz-DArg-Arg-Phe-EDDnp (Abz-DRRF-EDDnp), were selectively hydrolyzed by neutral endopeptidase (NEP, enkephalinase ...

First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

Specialized peptidoglycan hydrolases sculpt the intra-bacterial niche of predatory Bdellovibrio and increase population fitness.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2012
Bdellovibrio are predatory bacteria that have evolved to invade virtually all gram-negative bacteria, including many prominent pathogens. Upon invasion, prey bacteria become rounded up into an osmotically stable niche for the Bdellovibrio, preventing ...

Isolation and Characterization of a Highly Specific Serine Endopeptidase from an Oral Strain of Staphylococcus epidermidis

open access: yesBiological Chemistry, 2001
Infection by Staphylococcus epidermidis, an opportunistic pathogen, has become a major problem due to the increased use of implanted medical devices and the growing number of patients who are therapeutically or infectiously immunosuppressed. These infections appear to proceed via modulation of the coagulation and complement systems.

A Cytosolic Serine Endopeptidase from Trypanosoma cruzi Is Required for the Generation of Ca2+ Signaling in Mammalian Cells [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Cell Biology, 1997
An early event in the Trypanosoma cruzi cell invasion process, the recruitment of host lysosomes, led us to investigate the involvement of signal transduction. Infective trypomastigotes were found to contain a soluble Ca2+-signaling activity for mammalian cells that is sensitive to protease inhibitors.

Identification of drug repurposing candidates for the treatment of polycystic kidney disease

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a leading cause of end‐stage renal disease with limited treatment options. Drug repurposing offers a promising strategy to find effective treatments. Experimental Approach We identified birinapant, bardoxolone methyl and salicylic acid as repurposing candidates for ADPKD and

Soluble ICAM-5, a product of activity dependent proteolysis, increases mEPSC frequency and dendritic expression of GluA1.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are zinc dependent endopeptidases that can be released from neurons in an activity dependent manner to play a role in varied forms of learning and memory.

Extracellular matrix and proteolysis: mechanisms driving irreversible changes and shaping cell behavior

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Irreversible ECM proteolysis by remodeling enzymes shapes development, homeostasis, and disease. ECM‐degrading proteases display cell specificity and are governed by shared mechanisms, exhibiting functional redundancy in generating matrikines, growth factors, and cytokines.
