Leisure/Loisir, 2000Abstract In this paper, the meaning of volunteering and related concepts are discussed first, and then a brief history of volunteering in Australia is given. The notion of volunteering as serious leisure is examined and the paper concludes with a few case studies of people who volunteer in various ways as part of their leisure.
