Classification Under Uncertainty: Data Analysis for Diagnostic Antibody Testing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Formulating accurate and robust classification strategies is a key challenge of developing diagnostic and antibody tests. Methods that do not explicitly account for disease prevalence and uncertainty therein can lead to significant classification errors. We present a novel method that leverages optimal decision theory to address this problem.

Sever hepatitis induced by Epstein-Barr virus: case series

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, 2018
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a causative agent of infectious mononucleosis syndrome. This infection often resolves over a period of several months without outcomes, but may occasionally be complicated by a great variety of neurologic, hepatic, hematologic

Robust multiple method comparison and transformation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
A generalization of Passing-Bablok regression is proposed for comparing multiple measurement methods simultaneously. Possible applications include assay migration studies or interlaboratory trials. When comparing only two methods, the method reduces to the usual Passing-Bablok estimator. It is close in spirit to reduced major axis regression, which is,

Identification of the capsule type of Pasteurella multocida isolates from cases of fowl cholera by multiplex PCR and comparison with phenotypic methods

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2014
The ability of Pasteurella multocida to invade and multiply in its host is enhanced by the presence of the capsule, one of the most important virulence factors for this bacterium. Capsular typing methods are often used in epidemiological and pathogenesis

PCR combined with serologic testing improves the yield and efficiency of SARS-CoV-2 infection hunting: A study in 40,689 consecutive overseas arrivals

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2023
BackgroundThe global epidemiological situation of COVID-19 remains serious. The rapid hunting of SARS-CoV-2 infection is the key means for preventing transmission.MethodsA total of 40,689 consecutive overseas arrivals were screened for SARS-CoV-2 ...

Diagnostic value of antibody testing in comparison with lung scan and PCR in patients suspected of having COVID-19

open access: yesIranian Journal of Microbiology
Background and Objectives: SARS-CoV-2 is a newly discovered viral infection. It’s still unclear how antibodies react in infected individuals, and there is not enough evidence to support the clinical use of antibody examination.

Rapid Screening Evaluation of SARS-CoV-2 IgG Assays Using Z-Scores to Standardize Results

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2020
Many serologic tests are now available for measuring severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 antibodies to evaluate potential protective immunity and for seroprevalence studies.

A paper-based multiplexed serological test to monitor immunity against SARS-CoV-2 using machine learning [PDF]

open access: yesACS Nano (2024)
The rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 caused the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerated vaccine development to prevent the spread of the virus and control the disease. Given the sustained high infectivity and evolution of SARS-CoV-2, there is an ongoing interest in developing COVID-19 serology tests to monitor population-level immunity.

Prevalence Estimation and Optimal Classification Methods to Account for Time Dependence in Antibody Levels [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Serology testing can identify past infection by quantifying the immune response of an infected individual providing important public health guidance. Individual immune responses are time-dependent, which is reflected in antibody measurements. Moreover, the probability of obtaining a particular measurement changes due to prevalence as the disease ...

Estimating force of infection from serologic surveys with imperfect tests.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
BackgroundThe force of infection, or the rate at which susceptible individuals become infected, is an important public health measure for assessing the extent of outbreaks and the impact of control programs. Methods and findingsWe present Bayesian methods
