Adeno‐associated virus serotype 2 capsid variants for improved liver‐directed gene therapy

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Background and Aims Current liver‐directed gene therapies look for adeno‐associated virus (AAV) vectors with improved efficacy. With this background, capsid engineering is explored. Whereas shuffled capsid library screenings have resulted in potent liver targeting variants with one first vector in human clinical trials, modifying natural ...

Spanish HCMV Seroprevalence in the 21st Century

open access: yesViruses, 2023
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is linked to age-related diseases like cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative conditions, and cancer. It can also cause congenital defects and severe illness in immunocompromised individuals.

A systematic literature review of the global seroprevalence of cytomegalovirus: possible implications for treatment, screening, and vaccine development

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2022
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common pathogen that affects individuals of all ages and establishes lifelong latency. Although CMV is typically asymptomatic in healthy individuals, infection during pregnancy or in immunocompromised individuals can cause ...

WormWatch: Park soil surveillance reveals extensive Toxocara contamination across the UK and Ireland

open access: yesVeterinary Record, Volume 192, Issue 1, 7/14 January 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Toxocarosis is a globally distributed zoonotic disease, but sources of infection are not well documented over large geographical scales. To determine levels of environmental contamination, soil from 142 parks and recreational areas across the UK and Ireland was assessed for the presence of Toxocara.

COVID-19 antibody seroprevalence in Santa Clara County, California

open access: yesmedRxiv, 2020
Background Addressing COVID-19 is a pressing health and social concern. To date, many epidemic projections and policies addressing COVID-19 have been designed without seroprevalence data to inform epidemic parameters.

No evidence for yaws infection in a small‐scale cross‐sectional serosurvey in Ghanaian monkeys

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 9, Issue 1, Page 507-512, January 2023., 2023
Our small‐scale cross‐sectional study found no antibodies against the yaws bacterium in Ghanian monkeys, such as the Monas monkey (Cercopithecus mona) shown in the picture. Nonhuman primate (NHP) testing in Ghana should be continued to reach a geographically equally distributed and species‐specific sample size that allows better statistical support to ...

SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in children, parents and school personnel from June 2020 to April 2021: cohort study of 55 schools in Switzerland

open access: yesSwiss Medical Weekly, 2022
BACKGROUND: Few studies have directly examined the incidence or seroprevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections in children, parents and teachers from the same school communities.

Seroprevalence of Human Malawi Polyomavirus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2014
ABSTRACT The seroprevalence of the recently discovered human Malawi polyomavirus (MWPyV) was determined by virus-like particle-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in age-stratified Italian subjects. The findings indicated that MWPyV infection occurs early in life, and seroprevalence was shown to reach 42% in adulthood.

Confidence Intervals for Seroprevalence

open access: yesStatistical Science, 2022
This paper concerns the construction of confidence intervals in standard seroprevalence surveys. In particular, we discuss methods for constructing confidence intervals for the proportion of individuals in a population infected with a disease using a sample of antibody test results and measurements of the test's false positive and false negative rates.

Seroprevalence of Antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 in 10 Sites in the United States, March 23-May 12, 2020.

open access: yesJAMA Internal Medicine, 2020
Importance Reported cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection likely underestimate the prevalence of infection in affected communities. Large-scale seroprevalence studies provide better estimates of the proportion of
