A synthetic biology approach for a vaccine platform against known and newly emerging serotypes of bluetongue virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Bluetongue is one of the major infectious diseases of ruminants and is caused by Bluetongue virus (BTV), an arbovirus existing in nature in at least 26 distinct serotypes. Here, we describe the development of a vaccine platform for BTV.

Serotyping of Clostridium difficile [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1988
A total of 246 live Clostridium difficile cultures were serotyped by a slide agglutination technique. Fifteen grouping antisera were produced which serotyped 98% of the cultures (241 of 246). Our results indicated that certain serogroups may have specific pathogenicity.

Circulating Serotypes and Trends in Antibiotic Resistance of Invasive Streptococcus Pneumoniae from Children under Five in Bangalore [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2013
Background: Globally, Streptococcus pneumoniae is estimated to be responsible for 1 to 2 million deaths annually, in extremes of age. Serotypic distribution of pneumococci varies with age, time, and geographical area.

Comparative Analysis of Human and Animal E. coli: Serotyping, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Virulence Gene Profiling

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2022
Widespread multidrug-resistant (MDR) and multi-virulent diarrheagenic E. coli create several crises among human and animal populations worldwide. For this reason, we looked forward to a breakthrough with this issue and tried to highlight these emerging ...

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for Streptococcus pneumoniae capsular serotype classification in pediatric patients with invasive infections

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in the pediatric population (children and infants), with high rates of hospitalization and death. This study aimed to create and validate a classifier

Genetic Characterization of Toggenburg Orbivirus, a New Bluetongue Virus, from Goats, Switzerland

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2008
A novel bluetongue virus (BTV) termed Toggenburg orbivirus (TOV) was detected in goats from Switzerland by using real-time reverse transcription–PCR. cDNA corresponding to the complete sequence of 7 of 10 double-stranded RNA segments of the viral genome ...
