Low-Grade Ovarian Serous Neoplasms (Low-Grade Serous Carcinoma and Serous Borderline Tumor) Associated With High-Grade Serous Carcinoma or Undifferentiated Carcinoma

American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2012
Recent literature has suggested a dual pathway of ovarian serous carcinogenesis, with most serous carcinomas falling into 1 of 2 categories, low grade and high grade. These are considered to represent 2 distinct tumor types with a different underlying pathogenesis and associated with different molecular events, clinical behavior, and prognosis.

Micropapillary Serous Carcinoma of the Ovary

The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 1996
According to the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), stromal invasion, defined as destructive infiltrative growth, is the sole criterion used to distinguish serous borderline tumors from invasive serous carcinomas of the ovary.

Immunohistochemical Profiling of Endometrial Serous Carcinoma

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 2017
Endometrial serous carcinoma (ESC) is an aggressive neoplasm mainly seen in older women. The objective of this study was to refine immunohistochemical (IHC) panels for the differential diagnoses against endometrial endometrioid grade 3 (EC3), endometrial clear cell, and ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma as well as exploring the prognostic role of ...

Ultrastructure of Papillary Serous Carcinoma of the Endometrium

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 1984
Three cases of papillary serous carcinoma of the endometrium ( PSCE ) have been studied by transmission electron microscopy, and the ultrastructural findings compared with those in classical "endometrioid" carcinoma of the endometrium ( CECE ) and papillary serous carcinoma of the ovary ( PSCO ).

High-grade serous carcinoma of the ovary

Annals of Diagnostic Pathology, 2009
Most carcinomas of the ovary are diagnosed as serous carcinomas, even when they do not have featured characteristics of serous neoplasms. In this review article, we describe and illustrate the 7 different types of ovarian carcinomas. We believe that it is essential to separate these tumors because it is most probable that they follow different ...

Updates in therapy for uterine serous carcinoma

Current Opinion in Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2013
Uterine serous carcinoma (USC) is a highly aggressive variant of endometrial cancer with distinct molecular pathogenesis. This review summarizes the rationale behind current clinical approaches, as well as advances made in 2012 toward the elucidation of underlying pathway aberrations and development of targeted therapies that exploit these unique ...

Molecular alterations in uterine serous carcinoma

Gynecologic Oncology, 2010
Uterine serous carcinoma (USC) is an aggressive endometrial cancer associated with poor prognosis despite comprehensive surgical staging and adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Biologic targets have yet to be fully explored in this disease and research on such targets could lead to clinical trials utilizing a new class of therapeutics.A ...

Serous Carcinoma Arising in an Adenofibroma of the Endometrium

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 2003
A serous carcinoma and endometrial intraepithelial carcinoma were encountered in an endometrial adenofibroma in a 61-year-old woman. The carcinoma involved the myometrium and cervix (stage IIa). To our knowledge, this is the third documented case of an adenocarcinoma and the first serous carcinoma involving a uterine adenofibroma.

Allelotype of Papillary Serous Peritoneal Carcinomas

Gynecologic Oncology, 2001
Papillary serous peritoneal carcinoma (PSPC) is histologically indistinguishable from papillary serous ovarian carcinoma (PSOC) with a similar clinical presentation, yet may differ in its carcinogenesis. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of allelic loss and the frequency of p53 mutation by p53 overexpression in PSPC compared to ...

Multiple Focal Extraovarian Serous Carcinoma

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 1985
Nine cases of multiple focal extraovarian serous carcinoma were studied, and their gross, light microscopic, and ultrastructural features were compared with those of three serous ovarian tumors and three malignant mesotheliomas. On light microscopy, the multiple focal extraovarian serous carcinoma shared many features of the serous ovarian tumors ...
