Serous fluids, or those that arise from the liquid portion of blood, may be found in any of the bodily cavities of the human body. Accumulations of these fluids in and around tissues may lead to severe consequences, especially that of heart failure, where fluids gather around the heart and affect the contractions of the heart. Evolution of Methods for Cytodiagnosis of Serous Fluids
1989The study of cells in serous fluids goes back to the earliest days of medical microscopy. In the first volume of Virchows Archiv (1847) B. Reinhardt203 described how mesothelial cells were exfoliated into serous fluid and became transformed into rounded cells containing fat granules.

Measurement of Urinary and Serous-fluid Glycosaminoglycans and Urinary Hydroxyproline
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1977Although analytic measurements of connective tissue components in biological fluids would frequently be useful in diagnosis and/or management of many inflammatory, neoplastic and metabolic diseases, such information is often unavailable due to the methodologic problems posed by these natural products.

Peritoneal fluid cytology in serous borderline tumours of the ovary
Cytopathology, 1998stewart c. j. r. and kennedy j. h. (1998) Cytopathology9, 38–45Peritoneal fluid cytology in serous borderline tumours of the ovaryPeritoneal fluid cytology findings in three patients with serous borderline tumours of the ovary and peritoneal serous implants are presented. The specimens were characterized by papillary groups, acinar clusters and single

Background: Cytological examination of exfoliated cells is very challenging and of paramount importance for diagnosis, staging and prognosis as the finding of cancer cells in such a specimen denotes that the patient has advanced and incurable cancer.

Current literature lacks data regarding the influence of serous fluid volume (SFV) on next-generation sequencing (NGS) performed on malignant cases. In this study, we highlight the impact of SFV and other parameters influencing the outcome of NGS analysis. We evaluated 827 samples of serous fluids from 607 patients.
