Taxonomy of the genus Dactylanthias Bleeker (Teleostei: Serranidae: Anthiadinae)
Zootaxa, 2021The anthiadine genus Dactylanthias is reviewed. Two species, Dactylanthias aplodactylus (Bleeker, 1858) and Dactylanthias baccheti Randall, 2007 are currently recognised, each known only from their holotypes. A specimen of Dactylanthias matching D. baccheti in coloration was recently collected from Nauru in the West Pacific Ocean.

Serranidae Smith and Craig (2007) have revised the Serranidae in a molecular study; they suggest to recognize the families Epinephelidae and Serranidae (the latter containing three subfamilies, namely Anthiinae, Serraninae, and Trachininae) and to include them in the Scorpaenoidei. We have adhered to the old classification here.
