Protogynous Hermaphroditism in Paralabrax maculatofasciatus (Pisces: Serranidae)
Copeia, 1989The spotted sandbass, Paralabrax maculatofasciatus, was determined to be a protogynous hermaphrodite based on the presence of three transitional individuals (with developing testicular and regressing ovarian tissues), the location of the sperm sinus of males within the lateral gonadal walls, and the presence of a gonadal lumen in males.

Mitochondrial DNA, 2013In this study, we present the complete mitochondrial DNA sequences of Epinephelus areolatus for the first time, which is 16,893 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and a putative control region. The overall base composition of the H-strand is 27.0% T, 28.0% C, 28.6% A, and 16.3% G.

Notes on the Serranidae and Lobotidae of Texas
Copeia, 1944THE Serranidae is represented in Texas by four known genera and six species; and there is little reason to doubt that further intensive collection will add to this list. Analysis of trophic ontogeny in Epinephelus marginatus (Serranidae)
2004Ontogenetic diet shifts of the dusky grouper, Epinephelus marginatus (Lowe, 1834), in the Balearic Islands (western Mediterranea) were studied using the stomach contents of 203 specimens ranging between 134 to 1056 mm total length. A total of 64.5% of the examined stomachs contained food.
