Application of optical single-sideband laser in Raman atom interferometry [PDF]
A frequency doubled I/Q modulator based optical single-sideband (OSSB) laser system is demonstrated for atomic physics research, specifically for atom interferometry where the presence of additional sidebands causes parasitic transitions. The performance

Broadband Optical Serrodyne Frequency Shifting
We demonstrate serrodyne frequency shifting of light from 200 MHz to 1.2 GHz with an efficiency of better than 60 percent. The frequency shift is imparted by an electro-optic phase modulator driven by a high-frequency, high-fidelity sawtooth waveform ...

Widely tunable laser frequency offset lock with 30 GHz range and 5 THz offset [PDF]
We demonstrate a simple and versatile method to greatly extend the tuning range of optical frequency shifting devices, such as acousto-optic modulators (AOMs).

An integrated processor for photonic quantum states using a broadband light-matter interface
Faithful storage and coherent manipulation of quantum optical pulses are key for long distance quantum communications and quantum computing. Combining these functions in a light-matter interface that can be integrated on-chip with other photonic quantum ...

Optical fiber sensors: a route from University of Kent to Portugal [PDF]
In this work the authors first summarily describe the main topics that were the subject of their post-graduate activity in fiber sensing at the Applied Optics Group of University of Kent in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Zeptosecond‐Scale Single‐Photon Gyroscope
A novel approach coupling Sagnac interferometry with estimation theory is proposed, presenting a fully fibre‐based sensor that employs a quadrupole winding‐fibre optic gyroscope together with serrodyne modulation and nanowire detectors to achieve an unparalleled photon delay detection limit of 26 zeptoseconds.

Single-channel laser Doppler vibrometers integrated on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) [PDF]
Multi-location velocity measurements of a vibrating surface are of interest recently. By scanning the laser beam of a single-point laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) across the surface of interest, one can realize the multi-location vibration measurement ...

Space-Time Medium Functions as a Perfect Antenna-Mixer-Amplifier Transceiver
We show that a space-time-varying medium can function as a front-end transceiver, i.e., an antenna-mixer-amplifier. Such a unique functionality is endowed by space-time surface waves associated with complex space-time wave vectors in a subluminal space ...
